ThxIt's not a commonly used powder in the 30BR. But like several powders in that burn rate area (H322, Benchmark, etc), it might show very good accuracy if you're willing to give up a bit of velocity. Availability is always worth considering. -Al
IMO, too slow. H322 and H4198(both unobtanium), N130, LT 30(both available) and maybe benchmark but it is on the slow side, at least the batch I used to try.Is anyone using 8208 XBR powder for 118 grain bullets
thx

It's likely to be a couple years before we see any new H4198 imported to the country. Honestly, even if you do find a bit of it....what happens when you can't replace it? At this point in time, the safer bet is to go right to LT30 and N130 and let your gun tell you which it likes best. Then buy the quantity that you need. Both are available and work well in the 30BR with all the commonly used bullet weights/jacket lengths.Thx!
hard to find 4198

But you never know what a casual conversation with a local shooter might turn up, either. Like a couple days ago for me:

ThxI seem to find more Hodgdons CFE BLK on the shelf at the local Sportsman. Close to the same burn rate as H4198 and N130. Just haven't tried it in the 30BR yet.
N120 gets used extensively in the smaller case .30's for BR use...the 30 Major, 30PPC, 30 Grendel family. 4227 is a good one in the BR case if the driver knows when to get off the throttle.Would be interesting to try V-N120. The claim is for higher
pressures needed to burn properly and has the smallest
kernal of all the Vhitavouri rifle powders. And on the burn
rate chart, it sits next to H4198. Since everyone is working
the high end with long drop tubes, It may be worth the look.
Al, thanks for the info. I have some of that and guess I should give it a whirl! Also, don't overlook the 'O.G.' 30BR powder.....Accurate 1680. Prior to the wide spread use of H4198, the 30BR made it's bones with 1680.
Good shootin'-Al

No, I haven't yet.Al, have you tried anything like CFE-223 in the 30 BR?
I'd love to be able to use a ball powder in the 30.
I'll also give the 1680 a try since I have a couple of pounds of it.
