My New Benchrest Rifle

I finished building my first benchrest rifle the other day and have been fireforming some brass. I machined every step on this action, chambered the barrel, bedded it, and put it all together. The groups are from today and they’re 5 shot groups fireforming virgin .220 Lapua brass with 26gr of H322, some old unnamed 66gr FB bullets .010 in the lands, and some old Winchester primers. I think it’s going to be a shooter!

I'm not a BR shooter, but is 20" or so pretty common in SR BR? Damn fine looking rig though! Congrats.
20-22” is pretty common. I originally finished it at 22.5” but when I put everything together I was a few ounces over weight. So I shortened it to be an even 20” and now I’m just under weight. It’s my first go around so I calculated my weight wrong, I’ll know better next time.

I've read that only the best shooting rifles in TX must be cut to 21-3/4", but wasn't sure what was common. Maybe I'll shorten one of my mid range guns for grins and giggles.

I’m not familiar with the Pierce Banshee action.
It’s something kinda new I came up with for benchrest. Pierce doesn’t really have a dedicated benchrest action, so I made this one. I wanted to use a Pierce action and represent the business I work for, but I wanted something that would be a little more optimized for BR. We have our FTR action that’s available as a dual port, but it has a 0.300” longer tenon than our standard short action and it’s a little overkill for a 20-22” barrel and the excess weight doesn’t help. The Banshee is basically our non-integral short action with a keyway lug, dual ports, trigger hanger, and a cone bolt. It could be made with an XP cut and a heavy square rear tang, however this stock was inlet when I got it for a 1.450”action with a Remington style tang, so I made something that would somewhat fit the inlet and just made up the rest with bedding. The Banshee utilizes our standard cone bolt, fire control system, and scope mount holes and dowel pin spacing so it’s not really anything extra special or complicated to make.
Very nicely done...you should be proud of your build. :) Love the flames. -Al
Thanks Al! That means a lot coming from you!
