Alex are the 6.5’s a lost child now with the 6mm and 7mm performing better on both ends?
I noticed Tom didn’t mention a 6.5 in his video interview either.

At the 2023 Rendezvous Match at the infamous Vapor Trail Valley, the 6.5's whooped our collective hind-ends. Two years in a row @david kieffer put the thump on the 1000 yard score contest with a 6.5X47L and this year he placed First in score for 16 targets and a strong 3rd overall, and I believe @Dave Way was also shooting a 6.5X47L and he finished 4th overall and he shot the smallest group at 1000......... that cut my 2.3" group in half!
There were only 3 6.5's at the match and two of the three placed in the top 5.
I would say that the 6.5 is a solid performer indeed!

Jim, As I look at the statistics from matches across the country, and the records that have been set is recent years, I believe your statement is 100% correct. Mid-range and Long range F-Class, same distances in BR, the competition in the top 5 places is just amazing. The folks at the top will have both (equipment and operator) working at a high level. Of course, keeping your head in the game is always a big factor.
If you plan to win, ya best stay at the Holiday Inn Express,.....and wear your lucky socks!!!!

My opinion is yes ish. But only in general terms. Yes, there are examples of excellent 6.5s. But they all have one thing in common. They are all exceptional. If I built 10 6.5s and 10 6s the 6s would out agg. Thats a fact. Thats for LR BR. In F-Class the 7s have a place for a sweet spot of accuracy, recoil, and ballistics.

I have both 6br and 6 Dasher. Hard to beat 6 br out to 600, after that it seems my Dasher does a bit better. We have a lot of wind here though.

FWIW, the availability of quality Dasher brass changes things. I have not tried Peterson's offering, but Alpha brass is absolutely outstanding in terms of consistency and the durability is looking very good based on my experience. Fire formed Lapua is tough to beat, but Alpha doesn't give up much, if anything. Just make sure your reamer plays well with Alpha.

I'd go Dasher.

In my experience, this is true if one tries to turn it into a .243.

A straight 6br will shoot very competitively at 1000 yards. They’re easy to keep in tune, and mine was still winning 1K yd matches, at over 5k rounds, with the original 100 pieces of brass. Ran a very low node, and kept after the carbon. Had two others that also shot very well from 100 to 1000, and agged in all conditions.
Tune trumps raw speed.

Ok….it has been decided that the build will be a 6mm Dasher. Will be using a Bighorn Origin action. I plan in using 105-108 grain bullets. The barrel will be a prefit. The next question of concern will the barrel specs. Of the 3 I would consider the first uses a .2704 neck and a .104 freebore. Number 2 uses .272 neck and again.104 freebore. The last has .272 neck, but .140 freebore. What would you use?

You'll likely have to turn necks with a .2704 neck. 108 Berger goes a little past the shoulder with .104 freebore. (At least with mine, depends on overall throating angle). 103 to 105's I've used work fine with .104. If you're wanting to try the slower powders like R16 and H4350 for sure pick the .140 for the room. Just my thoughts.

Forgot to add that I will be using Alpha Munitions brass.

.272” and .140”. Like HT said .270” is just a little tight and I like the extra room for powder with .140” fb. A lot of guys seem to finding great accuracy pretty far back off the lands too and it helps with that.
