6Br/Bra hunting rig

I’m still full of options about exactly what I’m going to build as a coyote/plinking out to 600 yard gun. I have decided and bought a zermatt origin action and that’s as far as I have gotten. Apparently there is no one complaining about the accuracy from their 6br/bra and I see many use that caliber for coyotes also. I have a 223, couple of 22/250s, a 220swift which I’m very happy with and I got a couple grendels that have never shot like I wanted. I’m plenty happy with the .22 cal toys just want something extra. If I go this route, what, trigger, stock, magazine/or hinged floor plate combos would play well together as far as feeding/cycling in that action. . I hope to be able to install all components at home with little to no modifications. Thanks for any tips or directions.

Edit: take into consideration hard to get components. I know small rifle primers is coming around but have no idea about 6mm pills or brass

While I'm a huge 6 Dasher fan, & have built a couple just for coyote hunting, I'm a bigger 6x47 Lapua fan for a dedicated coyote gun.

It's the easy button for ease of feeding, no matter the bottom metal, M5, ADL, BDL, doesn't matter.

And a better fit in a 700 2.800" mag box with proper throating for the 105 class bullets.

Peterson makes great brass, and is generally available.

McMillan Game Warden 2.0 stock is currently on my 6BR coyote rifle. It's a very comfortable stock when shooting from a predator chair and using shooting sticks.

Getting a 6BR to feed flawlessly can be a very daunting task, depending on how your luck is running. As Alf mentioned, a 6 x 47 Lapua is the easy button. For a 6BR, a single stack magazine is the best way I have found to get 100% reliable feeding. BDL style set-up may drive you to drinking, as they just do not play well with the short 6BR. I believe MDT makes a dedicated AI style just for the BR line of cartridges. May be worth a look. Good luck with your project!

If someone else doesn't show up with some answers for you when I get back to the house I will post a picture and some details on the magazine issue, I had to learn a lot real quick, some of it was expensive. All the termanalogy used in the description of the different magazines is confusing and the bottom metal brand is important as well as the cut for it. Basically it boils down to (for me anyway) a good gunsmith like Mike Davis of Davis Custom Rifles over in NC to put it together and bed it, ACIS compatible center feed mags, and a proper M5 cut on the stock. I hope someone more qualified than me chimes in here and explains it better.... John

I would get a 6BRX over a 6BRA. Same ballistics just load and shoot to FF. I always shoot 60-68 gr bullets never much over 300 yards. I would get the twist for a bullet around 80-90 grains for 600 yards. The only issue with improved 6mm is they may not feed from a magazine. I single load for GH. They sell modified magazine followers to cure the problem. Someone else may recommend a mag fix or a longer cartridge.

There are certainly no flies on a BRX! I had gotten sick and tired of fire forming Dashers and was going to the BRX along about the time when Bart and Sam Hall started fooling around with the BRA. My gunsmith had a reamer and it was going to be a wait on the BRX reamer so I went that direction . I can't speak to anyother actions other than Remington and Atlas but the MDT BR mags work well and in my rifle a standard 308 MDT center feed works 100% with everything from 55s to the 108 bergers...good luck with your project. My Criterion 6br barrel is on my Zermatt Origin in a KRG Bravo's chassis. With the MDT metal 6br mags fully loaded. (12). And for 5 rounds I can run my .308 10 round magpul mags. More than 5 the follower tilts in the magpul. I've ran this rifle in PRS and shot Prarie Dogs with it. No issues running the MDT metal mags.

This 6BR doesn’t have any trouble feeding. Doesn’t shoot worth a damn though.
I also have a 6BRA and had another 6BRA. No trouble feeding in those either.
A mag lip tool is about $20 and a spacer kit if even needed is around $40.

It’s time to lay the feeding myths to rest. 15 minutes at the range and you can have it feeding 100% from any mag I’ve ever used.

A 6x47 is no slouch. If you’re still afraid of short cartridges, Jon Beanland has an excellent 6x47 Reamer.

Last time I went by Jon’s, he was getting a new CNC machine the next day to do chambering with to increase production. It should be a good deal to get pre-fits for a lot of known actions nowadays.

@Kracken McGraw its up and running.

He chambered my BRA on it a couple of weeks ago. I got 100 pieces of Lapua fireformed and in the next 50 rounds found it liked about the same thing my old one did. 1/4” 5 shot groups through load development. I’m going to get it out and shoot from a front rest when the rain subsides. I expect it’ll fall below .200 as the old one shoots that way.
