The skipping while sizing is likely causing the marks and your lube technique probably needs work. If it's a new die you need to make sure it's lubed lightly but fully and your cases the same. I clean new dies with solvent, make sure they are fully dry then lube very lightly with some alcohol thinned lanolin and let the alcohol fully flash off before using. If it's a freshly cleaned older die I do the same.quite a bit of resistance and skipping
Die is cleaned, using imperial sizing wax, Redding bushing die brand new.Is the die clean?
What case lube are you using?
Maker of the sizing die, new or used?
I reload for 284 and 6gt. Over thousands and thousands of time. Never had anything like this happen. The only difference is smith I had chamber the barrel. The skipping while sizing is likely causing the marks and your lube technique probably needs work.
I can see them on an unsized piece. Very hard to see with a naked eye, but the rings are where they show after sizing. Are the marks present on fired, but unsized, cases?
I do not, I think I’ll end up pulling the barrel and sending it to my smith to take a look. The marks are similar to marks from a fluted chamber except those are lengthwise. Maybe those are chamber engravings. Happen to have a borescope?
I had a Weatherby Vanguard that had a rough chamber that left vertical "rub" marks on the case and created hard extraction. My smith polished the chamber and the problem disappeared.I do not, I think I’ll end up pulling the barrel and sending it to my smith to take a look.
That was my thought. Tooling ridges/marks in the chamber.I had a Weatherby Vanguard that had a rough chamber that left vertical "rub" marks on the case and created hard extraction. My smith polished the chamber and the problem disappeared.
Many years ago, I had Ruger Blackhawk. The cases looked exactly like yours, those were tooling marks in the cylinder. Same remedy - smith polished the chambers and problem disappeared.
I had the same exact thing happen to me with a new Redding bushing die. It went away after a while, I think my lube technique was the culprit. Once the die was seasoned no more rings. Can’t hurt to look at the chamber if you have a bore scope. Good luck with your research.Die is cleaned, using imperial sizing wax, Redding bushing die brand new.
