Just so it is'nt like Ridgway's musical chairs.....LOL

I take it that it's swinging gongs and not knock overs ??

No musical chairs and there's actually more than 30 seconds to set up between relays. Very laid back and enjoyable compared to Ridgeway. Frustrating because the targets are considerably smaller.

Jesse, Can you please explain the "wildcard" scenario? Would the shooter forgo one of the required silhouettes in an attempt to hit the wildcard or do you get 11 shots at the start of each string?

That's correct Fuj and it is MUCH more difficult than Ridgeway. Plus, a more relaxed atmosphere.
Being relaxed is good for shrinking groups. Comparing the two, the 4" gong
is about all that was on the crows.....The 6" gong, I'll like better then those
skinny hamsters they call hogs......8" gong may have an edge over the bobcats
with the open leg......10" gong over the coyotes will be an issue. No room for
vertical on those.

Hows the conditions compared to Ridgway ?? Ridgway is evil !!....LOL Looking
over the range pic on the website, it might not be as bad.....or not !!

Just like at Ridgway, if you have shot there. You shoot 2 banks of 5. In between each back of 5 there is a cease fire and the target setters go out and "reset" the targets. At our shoot there is no resetting of targets because the are swingers. So in between each bank of 6, (one for the wildcard if you choose to shoot it) we have a cease fire that we call "down time". The length of down time is dependent of weather conditions. Any where from 3-6 minutes.

You can shoot a wild card in each of your timed relays it is an extra shot. Wild cards are optional. They are only used to break ties.

I tried loading pictures and a video but everything is "too large" for here.
Hope this helps if not feel free to give me a call my number is on the website and on the pre-registration form.
Jesse

I've only ever shot rimfire silhouette and we were only allowed ten rounds at the line, so that's why the 10 targets plus wild card was a bit confusing. The "extra shot" explains it. Thanks

I hate to say this but I have measurements of all the animals at Ridgway. The crow squares at 5" and then you have a head and a tail. Off the top of my head the ground hog is 14" tall and 5" wide. The comparisons gets even worse with the larger bobcat and coyote. It is a very challenging match as Jeff has said. My comparison is if you can shoot a 20 at our match you can shoot a 28-32 at Ridgway. I'm sure Jeff will agree. Come and have fun and good food.

Sounds like a plan.....

I haven't shot on a range with good conditions for so long its a myth. I have been fogged out and rained to death at both. Ridgeway has windflags, Mifflin had none so from that aspect Mifflin is harder. You also shoot at a very steep uphill angle at Mifflin. I would say overall I feel Mifflin is harder. I have left both some days smiling and other days very unhappy with myself. Mifflin has good food, from what I hear Ridgeway use too. Ridgeway got tt rushed for me, the shoot itself is fun. I really enjoy the Mifflin Steel Matches. At both, having a good spotter is of the utmost importantance. We are blessed with lots up interesting and different matches in Pa. Sunday I shot in a 200yd winter bench match at Anderson Creek. Next Sunday I am running the inaugural Springer Air Rifle Indoor 20 Meter Benchrest Match at the Double tap Range in Altoona. Lots of good shooting available.

Mifflin shoots up hill to 1000 yds. The angle is 6.7*. To me the conditions at Ridgway are predictable. Wind changes can be seen and depended on increases 2 fold over the next 2-3 targets. Keep holding more for each additional target. Mifflin not so much. Not much to look at and your bullet path spends half its time above the tree line. I've watch top shooters at 500 yards miss the groundhog target from one side to the next in the time it takes to reload. But its all fun!!

All good info for the head to process. What's the general elevation for
the range itself ?? A quick search tells me about 500 ft. for Lewistown.
