Help with bullet choice

NC/Br Shooter

What is the most sought after heavy .22 cal bullet?
I know when I shot 6mm , the 105 berger hybrid was the go to,. And the 108.
One reason I ask this is because if I have to buy 1000 bullets at once, I want to make sure it's the right choice. I assume it's the 85.5 berger hybrid?
Any suggestions welcome.
Project is for 22bra 8twist, .150fb
Iv shot some 80grain Hornady with some early success. Switched powders and was no good.
So to better ask the question, what would be the best berger bullet, for 22bra, 8twist, .150 fb using Ar comp, or imr 4350?

Possibly the 77gr Berger.
I have a 1:9 twist so i'm stuck with 73gr or lighter.
I'm thinking if you go heavier than 77gr, you may need a 1:7 twist.

I got some 88elds on the way. I just ordered online. So, looking for load data, I'm comparing this 22bra, with the 88eld to 22gt, 22dasher ,22br
And looks like people are using slower powder.
4350, RL 17, RL 19.

Please keep us informed on your progress. I have an 8 twist 22bra being built as we speak. My goal is 75gr eld’m but if I can’t get what I want I’m hoping to try, 80’s, 85.5’s and 88’s but don’t want to waste my time as I know a 7.5 twist would probably be better for this application of the 85’s+.

I started with 69 Sierra's and AR comp. 28g
Shot 20 of those. Then loaded 80g Hornady s at 28g of AR comp. That was fairly good.
So hears a question on the Hornady ELDs,
Should I start at Jam or real close. With those 80s I shot, I loaded those 10 thousands minus hard Jam.
So The question is, Do Hornady Elds like jam or jump?

Don't be afraid to jump them a fair bit. Your rifle may like 'em that way. I jump the 75 gr. and 80 gr. ELD-Ms .030" - .040" with good results in two .22-.250 AI barrels.

The 85.5 is hit or miss, works for some and flops for others. At the fclass matches I shoot the 80.5 Fullbore is tough to beat at 300yd, and you may not have the twist to shoot the heavies which are better for longer distances.

I looked at the power burn rate chart.
You mention 8208xbr, AR comp is right beside it.
The other day I shot a good group with 28g of ARcomp with the 80eld. I think it's time to drag out the chronograph and ladder up some more 80s.

Guys I really appreciate the posts. This was all I was looking for. Just a step in the right direction.
Least now I'll have lil more confidence in which way to go. Iv also read on here to be lil more careful with the 22br case vs the 6 as far as jumping up powder weight.
Does pressure spike real fast in this case?

It can so pay attention closely to primers, bolt lift after firing, and only go up in charge weight 2 or 3 grs. at a time and be aware of anything that seems funny.

I shot an honest .300 5 shot group off the bipod today.
22bra 8twist .150fb developmental stage 2
5 shots .3 on the dot 100 yd
28.8 g AR comp
69g smk

So what do I do next?

At 100yd the 69SMK is a good bullet, but if you plan on shooting 300+ the wind will eat you alive. Choose accordingly.

Iv not had any luck with the 88s yet.. Iv tried 29g AR comp and 30 grain of 4350.
It's not likely that you will with an 8-twist barrel. That twist rate is insufficient for bullets in the 85+gr weight class, even at the velocities possible from the 22BRA cartridge. If you focus on bullets up to the ~80 gr range that are more suitable for an 8-twist barrel, you'll probably be much happier with the results.

I don't doubt what your saying at all .
The barrel has a .150fb and I figured having a 8 twist would be more forgiving when shooting a 80g+ bullet. Bullets lighter than 80, don't get close to the lands if it's going to be seated a reasonable depth. I was hoping to have the best of both worlds. Shoot lights and heavies in the same rig.
Iv just got started testing this thing, so I'll keep trying. Every time out it's got a lil better.
I'll get home from work, load 20 up and go shoot, before I have to anything else.
Iv seen some 22br loads with 31g+ with slower powders.
Next time with the 88s will be 30.5 imr 4350.
The 69smk , I loaded them just while ago, are at 29g AR comp. Shootin those tomorrow or Sat.

I'll echo the recent comments regarding your barrel's rate of twist and the likelihood you will achieve good results with 80 gr. bullets and heavier. The 75 gr. ELD-M and the 77 gr. Sierra may be your top end as far as weight goes. Don't worry - both of these bullets are jump-tolerant, and they shoot small with just a little coaxing.

Since the Sierra's did well. I'd like to find some more of those. I don't have the box they came in
They where green tipped 69g 22cal Sierra's. I'm not sure if they are game king, or tipped match king. If I post a picture of the bullet think y'all could identify it?

Sierra does not make a 69 grain tipped GameKing. Their .224 tipped GameKing offering is a 64 grain bullet. You would be looking for the 69 grain tipped MatchKing.
