25 Creedmoor (Help Please)

Interesting. Section 3.1 of the NRL Hunter rules says there is no minimum power or caliber requirements.

I bought the 25 creed because its the best ballistics I could get out of my aics 10rd pmags. The 131 ace and 135 berger both get optimal load length at about 2.84" and the 10 round pmags go out to 2.86. So I saved several hundred bucks on mags. The 6.5 creed with 150 sierra or 153 berger is a little better in the wind but you need an action and magazine that can feed 2.91-2.93" oals. You may be notching action ramps to accommodate that length and aics binderless mags are 70$ a piece.

Interesting. Section 3.1 of the NRL Hunter rules says there is no minimum power or caliber requirements.
Even more interesting:
Section 3.1 actually says the following, verbatim.

“All rifles used to compete in the NRL Hunter series shall meet a minimum power factor requirement, unless excluded below. Minimum Power Factor (PF) is 380,000 and calculated by taking the Bullet Weight in (gr) multiplied by Muzzle Velocity in (fps). For example, 143 gr @ 2670 fps = 381,810 and makes the minimum. With a Muzzle Velocity maximum of 3275 fps 6mm with 115gr will not be able to make the minimum PF.

Use of factory sealed box ammunition, .264” (6.5mm) and 130gr or above, is not subjected to meeting the PF requirement under this section.”

25 Creedmoor, should have called it the 25 Costmore. One of the dumbest ideas I've heard yet. Necking a cartridge down .007 and then pouring a bucket of money into it and it won't do anything a 257 Roberts will do.

I'm a .257 fan having own a number of 250-3000, a couple 257R's and a 25-204. Now the 25-204 is interesting as it will duplicate original 250-3000 and 257 R ballistics in a small bolt-face rifle. As far as I know I built the first one in 2005 and it works on really big deer.

25-204....
Kinda sounds like the 257 Kimber to me. ;)

I have to apologize, it seems there are two sets of rules One set describes the two different classes and the other doesnt.

From NRL rules, that I found when looking, seems there is a major division also.

3.1 Rifles and Calibers

There are no divisions or classes.

All rifles used to compete in the NRL HUNTER ONE series shall weigh in less than 16lbs with all dedicated support equipment attached. Rifle consists of barrel, muzzle devices, trigger, action, stock, scope, bipod (if used), and sling (if used).

Rifle mounted electronics: Due to the surge of consumer video equipment availability, passive rifle mounted electronics used for video recording which are mounted on a rifle system will not be included in the weight of the rifle. Assistive electronic devices such as E-data cards, hard mounted range finders, or timers, etc which aid the user during the stage time, will be included in the overall rifle weight.

10 round maximum magazine capacity all rifles shall start the stage without rounds in the magazine area (this is a safety consideration to prevent loaded firearms outside the shooting area.)

There is no minimum power factor requirement, as seen in the two-day NRL Hunter Series.

There are no minimum caliber requirements, however calibers may not exceed a 30 cal and must have a Muzzle Velocity maximum of 3275 fps.

3.2 Support Gear Equipment

I guess from your description you can't win without one.

So why come to a 25 CM thread and argue about it? No one cares. People shoot it because they want to. Why shoot a 25-204? Because you want too, and you ain’t buying factory ammo for that. As far as cost goes… it doesn’t cost me anymore to load for a 25 creedmoor than it does to load for a 6 or 6.5. I also have a safe full of 257 Robert’s and 257 ackleys. Brass selection is not near as good since your pretty much limited to Nosler. Alpha and Peterson both offer 25 creedmoor brass or you can use any brand and neck down or up.

I’m in the process of updating my Savage Striker to 25 Creed. The only thing I’m finding annoying , you have to be creative and make up your own die set.

The closest thing to the 25CM is the 250 Savage Improved (30-deg shoulder) and it's case compacity is 51.3; I think the 25CM is right at 51; the Ackley Improved (40-deg) is 52.0.

It's just as easy to adjust load data for the 130 gr 6.5 CM on the 131gr - 135gr 25CM bullet's.
That's what I do. My barrel didn't care for RL 16, but shows good promise with AA 4350. It shot several group's in the .3" - .4" range during testing, but right now it's way too hot to test anything.

This is what I did as well. Worked fine for me. H4350 seems to be the ticket.

I already use H4350 with 4 other rifle's, I'm just finding some other powder's to use. I have plenty to choose from on the shelves, and AA 4350 didn't lag far behind H4350 when I tested it in my 260 and 6.5 CM's from what I remember. It's just too hot here right now to do any more testing.
