Satern Powder Funnel

Does anyone else think the newer Satern powder funnels, with the more pronounced ridges, are not as good as the older ones?

Those ridges seem to hang on to a kernel or two. That never seemed to happen with my older ones.

I haven't tried the new Satern funnels. I do have some of the old ones. I quit using them because the brass insert started collecting powder from time to time.

I do use an Area 419 set and it has very pronounced ridges, but they do not have powder hang up on them, for what its worth.

It is on my list of things I'd like to upgrade, but when I added my 6.5 spending $18 rather than $100 was more appealing. But now that this one works less than great, I think I should have upgraded.

I think the 419's vertical ridges are probably a better design for not catching kernels.

Not so much with bigger sticks but I dropped some H414 (W760) ball using one weeks ago and I still see a few balls hanging up in there.

TAP, TAP, TAP with a pencil.

I have some older ones that are smooth, large calibers. Contact me if you have any interest.

I tried the older version years ago and it leaked kneels from 223 Rem cases, so I stopped using it.

I went back to an inexpensive MTM see through plastic funnel that works great. It seals better against the case neck presumably because it's softer and I can see if all the powder went into the case without having to change position while depositing powder in the case.

As far as powder clinging to the funnel. I periodically wipe the funnel with a sheet of Snuggles which seems to eliminate any static sticking.

Bought a used one. The brass part loosened, Tried filling the gap, still worked loose. They may be ok for large stick powder but didn't work with ball.

I have the older and some of the newer one's. The kernels do seem to hang more than before, but I tap the funnel on both anyway, just my habit, and they fall into the case. Light ball powder does require two taps.
So regardless, I am happy with the Satern funnels and I do ripe the inside with a drier sheet.

Been using Saterns for years now with no issues in .223, 243, 264 and never had any problems. For .30 cal I use a old MTM pink plastic job I bought 15 years ago. Call me a tight wad but I don't think a high dollar funnel will help my scores all that much
