I understand exactly what you're saying. My problem is is we've all been told this is a shooting venue. I've been chastised many times by a certain person on this venue. When I felt I was doing the very thing you're talking about trying to get other people to understand what's going on. I've had numerous posts and comments removed because "they weren't related to shooting". That's why I don't understand why this one has going on so long. I thought on a site like this, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. But as usual that statement is never true. So I'm going to shut up. I held my tongue as long as I could I've said my piece, I will not reply to this thread anymore, I like it here and I don't want throwed off. There's not a better fourm on the internet for what we do.
Some of, the Shooter's posting HERE at, Accurate Shooter are having, a "Hard Time", AFFORDING Reloading Components ( leaving the Sport ) and the CURRENT Govm'nt IS, "Mucking up", the Economy and INFLATION IS, eating up, their resources ( AKA,.. Dollars being, DE-Valued ). Yup, some of, us are just Old and haven't much else to do BUT,.. make the yougun's,.. AWARE of,.. the "situation" that WE "see", so Plainly !
And, Nobody, "Needs" to Click on THIS posting,.. IF, NOT,.. interested.
I personally WISH,.. ALL the BEST for My Friend's,.. HERE !

My questions are "how long have we known this and why do we keep sending the same people back to Washington time after time"?
The same people have been there (both sides of the isle) for years and years. They all make bold promises (both sides of the isle) and seldom keep them. Meanwhile, our debt and taxes soar out of sight. Why do we keep doing this to ourselves? It is us who elect them. It is us who have to solve the problem. Sending your incumbent back again is not a solution.

TERM LIMITS. Needed is the states also. I never realized that elected official was a career path for some.

All of this is well and good. What I don't understand is why the moderator has not shut this post down as it has absolutely nothing to do with shooting. Not saying it's wrong and it's all true and it needs to be discussed but we've all been told that this is a shooting venue not a political venue. Just my two cents whether anybody likes it or not.

My elected people sure don't want to talk with me. Corruption is a way of life for these people.

Not a great solution, IMO. We just need to vote in better people. Here's a really good summary:

http://www.wnd.com/2015/01/the-case-against-term-limits/

The man in charge may change, but the minions stick around:

I watched as new legislators were “told” who their new chiefs of staff would be. In some cases, their legislative assistants would now be dictated (or strongly suggested) by consultants as well.

Anther couple of tidbits:

Now the moment a new legislator is elected, he or she is much less concerned about learning the process and passing (or stopping) legislation that is good for Missouri. Instead, new legislators spend a great majority of their time jockeying for appointments, corporate jobs or lobbying opportunities.

The smart legislators will naturally gravitate to issues that can later give them a job, once they are term limited. Why wouldn’t they? Where is the motivation to serve a mere eight years and then return to your bank teller or farming job like you never worked your tail off to be elected in the first place?

Her 3 main points against term limits:

1) Absolute power doesn’t dissipate, it transfers. Therefore, what happens when you institute term limits is that it transfers not to the young, fresh-faced legislators (as I had fantasized), but rather to those who are not elected: The consultants, the staff and the lobbyists. That has horrible consequences.

2) Knowledge is power. Knowledge of the political process is critical to effective legislating. Term limits destroy an intangible value that comes from experiential knowledge gained over years of legislating. As annoying as it might be, the lack of that wisdom proved to be a critical loss to the state.

3) Thomas Jefferson said, “Whenever a man has cast a longing eye on offices, a rottenness begins in his conduct.” The narcissistic, corrupt or otherwise power ravenous are prime candidates for office, because they compete at every turn and always have an eye cast on more power. Can we really be so naive to think that somehow term limits reverses their ego? When they are forced out by term limits, rather than returning to their lives and homes around the state as I fantasized, they began looking earlier and more deviously for their next power gorge. Freshmen legislators were now trading votes for jobs they were promised when they reached the limit of their terms.

I'm curious as to who you think could be sent?

There is so much polarization between the two parties that there is no room for anyone outside of them, either for attention or financing. It is easier to elect people who fit your description on a local level, not on a national level.

All we are left is with is to "pick your poison." That is our reality and the times in this country when things were different....well, none of us were alive then. The world has changed. I'm sorry to break it to you but the "people" lost their power a long time ago and it isn't coming back. I hear the sentiment and in reality it is nothing more than wishful thinking. And the people in actual power wouldn't have it any other way...no matter who they identify with.
RKS, I tend to agree with you that we have lost the power. However, I don't entirely agree that it can't be gotten back. It will require a whole lot more effort that we have been used to expending and it probably starts with fresh individuals running for office and ousting the incumbents. It should start at the local level and spread from there.
However, this is a tough go. We have had movements / groups come and go without much success. Notable would probably be the tea party movement.
I continue to hold some hope that the existing situation could / can be changed by the ballot.
The alternative solutions are frightening.

Let us face it we have 85 million people to blame for this old coot destroying everything. If it goes up to much and I will have to sell my house and get a trailer.

I think I will stop reading this thread and watch Gun Smoke and drink rye whiskey. I haven’t been this depressed since I paid a $100 for a brick of 450 primers.
My George Dickle rye whisky. $22.50 1/5th. Had a little bit (neat)
watching John Wick III.

There was mention in another post about old people griping more.
The younger people that have not put there time in will surely have
there turn.

A flat tax sounds good but when the pork barrel runs dry/empty, wouldn’t they just increase the percentage?

Sure, but that's better than buying your own bonds.

When you increase the %, the people at the bottom will feel it the most, and that is not a good message for re-election.

I am not certain but I think our debt is an unsolvable issue. Money is a drug and the more you have the more you want. There is now a huge chunk of our population that is on the dole, dependent on government programs for their existence. And, they vote! I don't know where or when or how this is going to end, but I fear it will not be pretty!!

Bingo! This is exactly what most pols want. Red or blue they want us dependent on the big gov. I was in a meeting the other day with a room full of vets. One expressed his thankfulness for the biden 5.9 % raise. I mentioned it would be gone as soon as they announce the increase for Medicare. And two days later the news of an increase is back page news. The Goverment is corrrupt but the news media is down right the enemy, and jose is paying them off in the infastructure bill. Jeff

This is not hardship, not even CLOSE ! Those people will not change their minds about what is beneficial for all until they are eating bugs and grass. My mother told me stories of eating bread made of flour swept off of the floor and could feel the grit in her teeth as a child in Germany after WW2 .That scenario is on the dice that's rolling now.
