A rifle for 1000 yds ?

What rifle and caliber would you guys suggest for 1000 yd bench rest shooting ?

the 6.5 x 47 with less recoil would interest me as for two torn rotor cufs I can't take too much recoil. Also would a 243 be enough rifle for it ?

The short fat cases seem to be the better choice for accuracy. I enjoy shooting my 6.5x47 Lapua at 1,000 yards.

Ford, Chevy, Toyota.. It's really personal preference. I've won more with the inherent accuracy of the 6mm than the big boomers (i.e. 284 or 30 cal). Any 6mm variant will do, and there's no cure all caliber for bucking the wind, so I'll stick with my 6's.

By the way, I drive a dodge so... 6XC get's my vote

I've had excellent luck over the years with a standard 243 in a 7 twist shooting 105's-115's.

IF, the Wind's NOT blowing, too hard, the 6 XC or 6 SLR, can do it without,.. the Recoil !

I actually run my 300WSM 90% of the time if it's a perfect day then i might break out a 6.

I do with cars like I do with guns so you never know. Probably be in my all black charger sunday though.

I just read that Mike Wilson set the record for smallest 1000 yard 5 shot group with the 6 BRAW (BR Ackley Improved Wilson). I guess if I was starting out shooting at 1000 yards, I would start there.

I shoot a 17lbs gun in 300WSM with a brake on it. I can honestly say if I am on my game the gun is absolutely capable of winning any match.

The 243 eats barrels. You will not get the accuracy with round counts like the 6 BRA or 300 WSM. Matt

I'd try, a 7mm- .270 WSM with,.. 3 or 4 Extra, Barrels IF, I had, the $$$'s,..
And wanted to shoot,. 1,000 yds
