Mail Carrier Woes!

Anyone else have issues with their mail carriers? Almost 2 years ago I moved from a very large city, several million, to a smaller town of about 13K people. At my previous residence, we had the BEST mail carrier. He was an older gentleman that also was willing to help, take packages when I didn't schedule them, drop stuff off at our house, would tuck packages behind stuff so they wouldn't get taken, talk to us, etc.

When we moved to our current residence, we hardly ever get the same carrier, mail is very often delivered to the wrong address, and today...... Both my wife and I were in the kitchen, with our 4 little kids all under 7 running around and screaming in the front room like kids do and we both heard the mailman open our porch door, drop the mailbox lid and walk out. No knock, no door bell. I left for work, and saw the postal carrier at the end of my block, 3 houses down. No big deal, except, today is one of the days I have my gun shop open, so I get to work in the shop in the afternoons. I've been waiting on a Defiance action for quite some time now. Guess what was suppose to arrive today! Wife sends me a text "WTF", with an attached image of "sorry we missed you" note. I'm no mail carrier but they needed a signature of course for this and I'm not sure why they didn't even take the effort to knock at the door or the door bell. My wife is usually always home too. It took longer to write out the note, than to stand there for a minute and knock or ring the door bell. So instead of starting to put together this rifle today, I'll have to wait till Thursday, (my next day in the shop). Not the end of the world just very annoying.

When we first moved here and I was getting my FFL at this new residence, I was notified that my license was suppose to show up on a certain day as well. Day came, NO license! There I am thinking, oh great what do I do now! It was scheduled to be here today and nothing. Now I'm going to have to call the ATF, tell them the license went missing, issue a new one, etc, etc..... 6 hours later, it showed up in my mailbox. I think it got delivered to the wrong address and someone had enough wherewithal to realize that this wasn't just some junk piece of mail.

I know there has been a million USPS posts, but I see more and more laziness within the USPS as the years go by.

I don't think location has anything to do with it. It's all individual attitude. The USPS doesn't pay as well as they did in the past and they ask the employees to work longer hours and sometimes do things the hard way. My route is cursed as the worst in the county. The pay is low and the labor is high. I've had three different main carriers in 3 years. Every once in a while a new person is thrown into the route to assist but the main carrier tells me they do more harm than good and they have to fix the assistant's errors. Somedays I think Jeff Bezos needs to take over and fix the USPS.

So it comes to santa clarita on the 16th then they ship it 25 miles away to canoga park where it says "missent" , then they ship it back here to santa clarita and it has sat since the 18th. It was supposed to be delivered on the 16th. Guess where I'm going today..... it's always a pleasure.usps.jpgusps2.jpg

I'm retired from Fed Gov. People some times feel empowered because they work for the GOVY. Recently we got a new carrier. We have lived at this address 6 years. Never a problem. Mailbox is on the front porch. The number is on front of the garage for 15 years. This genius walks within 20ft . Suddenly the top on the mailbox has the hse number scrawled on it in black marker . I had to hunt to find the Post office phone number. Acting post master suggested to use some cleaner to remove it. I asked when the carrier was going to clean it ? Post master showed up later with some cleaner and immediately smeared black marker and the finish. It was a bout 10* above zero. Decided he would pay for the box out of petty cash. $30 bucks.
Strange as the the $30 bucks was cash and i had to sign nothing as to have received it ? The carrier supposedly done this same trick more than once in another town.

Nothing compared to your situation. But he felt empowered.

Everyday I get an email from the post office notify me what is arriving that day. It takes pictures of the mail being delivered (pretty cool idea) and gives tracking numbers of packages being delivered.
My father and I had bought a few things together, so he sent me a personal check to cover his end of deal. I get the USPS email 2 days later with the picture of the envelope from my father. Great it’s here. Go to mailbox Nothing, ok I will wait a day see if it comes tomorrow. It has happened a few times where something was delivered the next day. So next day arrives and no check. So I call the post office (a town of 800 people and I live in the country) and tell them I received the email with the picture of the envelope from my father the other day and I haven’t received the check yet. Her response “well those cameras aren’t always right” What! How is it possible to take a picture of something that isn’t there!? Her response “there is nothing we can do, there is no way of tracking a letter. Never received the envelope.

I can truthfully say, I have the best route carrier on the planet.
When anything unusual happens I can always count on it being
a sub carrier. For now, in my world, service is back to normal.

Said it before, I'll say it again (and again, and again): When it comes to delivery of critical items, the Federal Govt does not want you (the seller) to use what is, ostensibly, the Federal Govt's own delivery service. They don't trust the USPS, why should you?

Easiest way to solve this is to get a PO box at your local PO. Use it as your business address, they will put a notice of package arrival if it won't fit in the box and you can pick it up at the counter, John

I am lucky to have good contientious people too Larry. The main gal is great in herself and her backup is her son, who is also great. Things happen before it gets to them though and it seems like the end people are getting blamed for it all. Gary

We live out in the country. USPS will bring packages to your home if it’s .5 miles or less from your mailbox. Well our house is .5 mile plus about 50’. We had one post woman for about 2 years that would never bring a package because of that extra 50’.

I hope you found her another job. LDS

Amazingly they delivered mail-in votes without a hitch. o_O

They almost certainly did not. Ones that arrive after the deadline (whatever that is) just get trashed. The awesomeness of the Post Office is one justification that some Judges used to simply assert the power to change those deadlines.

When I was in the Army, and deployed, the Army went to great pains to insert Army absentee ballots into the Post Office's custody at the absolute furthest point along the chain that they could, to maximize the chances that said ballots would arrive in time. Voting officers pre-sorted soldier's ballots so that the Army could fly them back to the states, and then fly them to nearby major post offices to their destinations, rather than dumping them into the nearest APO post office box (like ordinary letters).
