Eyesight issues ?

My vision changes from time to time. Sometimes it will even change while I’m shooting. Do any of you have similar situations? I‘ve been chalking it up to age.

Yeah, same here. . . especially since I'm into my 70's, and having to deal with bifocals doesn't help. One thing I found that helps my vision is to be sure be well hydrated. When I'm not, my vision is often a real struggle.

I have that problem all the time. Case in point - since winter is coming I decided to upgrade my air rifle ("springer" - Daisy 853 from the CMP) for shooting in the basement. It had double aperture sights on it and since my eyes don't work as well as they used to and because you can now use scopes for everything, I decided to add a scope.

After much research I bought a Hawke 2-7 X 32 scope from Amazon for $109. Turns out the glass is really good for the money. I installed it on the rifle using a BKL "drop" mount I had for my Anschutz 1413, adjusted the parallax and the occur lens a couple days ago, worked great. Today I picked it up and the sight picture was terrible. I made a few adjustment and all is well again, but why?

I have the same issues (70 years old) and found that if I use good 'dry eye' formulation drops it helps quite a bit. I also have early stage cataracts. Changing light conditions change focusing abilities for me.

I also have a Hawke 3-9 on my springer and was impressed by the optics.

I'm in a similar boat as well. I've got astigmatism, floaters, wide angle glaucoma and tri-focals. Some days at the range I can see the target clearly, other days not so much. I know it affects my groups/targets to some extent as it messes with my mind and concentration as well. I'm glad I can still shoot decent groups tho, and can go to the range on a regular basis. Lots of good people at the range.

yeah I have misshaped cornea in shooting eye. have had cataract surgery and have many floaters. may start shooting left handed one of these days. For now I find focusing to long and i believe my eye gets fatigued and the dot will start jumping around so i try not to focus very long before breaking the shot.

yes I also have the same problem, plus I have floaters in my eyes. Sometimes I feel like a layer of something is covering my eyes makeing them kind of blurry
the cloudier days are the worst with these F__n floaters, if I turn my head fast enough I can watch them catch up, after about an hour shooting I just about give up looking through the scope for more than a minute, haze in the late afternoon I just go home, ok done whining

oh ya I forgot at first I used to blame the scope what a piece of crap..... 1000.00 dollar piece of crap

Just the opposite with me. I thought my old faithful scope was dying...suddenly realized several apparently were going bad. Optometrist first found cataracts three days later. 5 years ago and still won't do surgery because they aren't big enough. PITA!

Yup.. Cataracts starting, my shooting eye has a clogged tear duct. Can never seem to get the scope in focus.... And the worst, eyebrows growing so long they hang down in front of my eyes.. Bout ready to pluck my eye brows and tattoo a set back on..

I too suffer the Jack Elam eyebrows, trim them once a week

I (did not wisely listen and) let my blood sugar get out of whack last year. Eyesight back and forth worse to not good. New experience for me.
Hope your issue is resolved.
Yes as mentioned earlier trifocals pushing near 60 which is not that old but then throw diabetes into the mix and I definitely feel your pain

Severe Grave's Eye Disease has left me with damaged optic nerves and eye muscles. After 7 surgeries, I am left with a right(dominant) eye that is slightly canted and protruding from the socket, loss of some color vision, and double vision. My eyes do not stay closed when I sleep, so each day usually starts with very sore eyes. Quite a few mornings, I wake to find the right cornea scratched making most of the day miserable. I have been known to tape the right eye closed at night which has it's own misery of removing the tape without pulling out all of the eye lashes.
My right eye will change during the course of the day and at times I can see fairly well. Other times, I cannot focus on anything with the right eye. Fortunately, the left eye still works well enough for me to shoot pistols.
When shooting rifles with iron sights, I have found that using a magnetic diopter on my shooting glasses allows me to see the front sight better. Peep sights, reflex sights, or a scope are all helpful.
Since seeing clearly is not possible with my dominant eye, I depend more on muscle memory when presenting a pistol to a target. Getting tight groups may no longer be possible, but they are good enough considering the challenges.
When shooting rifles, sometimes I just have to walk away from the bench for a few minutes and allow my eye muscles to relax before being able to see the sights, again.
I won't be competing or hunting any more, but I still get enjoyment putting holes in paper at my own pace.
These days, I am thankful to still have my vision. My condition is progressive so the eye muscles will only get worse over time. They will likely do more damage to the optic nerves further limiting my vision.
Even with all of my vision issues, I am thankful to the doctors that saved most of my sight.

At 60 I’ve already had cataracts done in both eyes.
Been driving a truck since 1992 and it helped keep me between the lines.
Still have a floatie his name is Elroy he only shows up when my eyes are tired.
Looking through a scope for more than 30 seconds and things begin to take on different shapes.
Sucks getting old.
