25-06 Sendero load reccomendations

Just got a used but near new 25-06 Remington 700 Sendero. I had some old factory varmint loads that I tried in it and they shot about 1/2 inch or so. I just put a Jewell trigger in as the Remington was 6 1/2 pounds from the factory for a heavy barreled varmint/deer gun. I was wondering if anybody had any pet loads. I was thinking of 100 grain BT by Nosler. I will use it for deer and Antelope and will not shoot over 600 yards or so.

I have 3 25-06 rifles, but I really only hunt with one.
Mine prefers RE25, then RETUMBO and finally H1000. I use either RE22 or H1000 with 100 grainers.
I use 56gr RE22 with 100gr BT’s, or 55gr H1000. Either load produces around 3350fps in my rifle.
I mainly use 110gr Accubonds these days.
My load is either 56gr RE25 or 57gr RETUMBO.

For large deer, I run 115gr Partitions. But that is in a different rifle with 26” tube.

Cheers.

I run H4831SC in mine. I use 85 gr NBT's for varmints and Nosler 115 BT for deer. The 100 gr Sierra also shot very well. All with H4831SC and CCI LR Primers.

100 gr. Nosler BT on top of 53.5 gr. of IMR-4831 works very good for me in my Rem 700 LRP rifle. I normally load @ .010 of the lands and use 30-06 Lapua Brass neck down and turned. I use both CCI BR-2 & Fed 210M GM primers. My rifle has a Calvin Elite BR trigger installed and I did replace the firing pin assembly with the PTG Light Weight assembly and swapped out the spring with the Tubb Duo-spring kit. Groups usually are 1/2 MOA @ 100 yds. and sometimes a little tighter when I do my part.

I just purchased one from a guy his brother hand loaded for it. Shoots really well inch at 200y. Here is the load data off his hand loads.
Brass PPU
Primers F 210
Powder H4831 54.5 g
Bullet Nosler 115g Bt
Base to ogive 2.638"
3100 fps.
These are safe in this gun.

I forgot to mention that all 3 of mine run magnum primers. WLRM get the best accuracy and I have tried all primer brands available.
Only one load actually likes FED215’s, and that is the one with 115gr Partitions.
At 100, the groups look like a ragged hole.

Cheers.

I have owned several 25-06 over the past 30+ years. All worked well with either 100 or 115 Noslers with H4831SC or H4350. I tried the new 110 Hornady ELDX bullets in my most recent 25-06 & they shot very well also. Terrific deer/antelope/yote cartridge.

I tried the 100 Nosler BT with H-4831, Re-22. and re-19 all loads were mid range and the only load that wasn't bad was the RE- 19. I shot Fed brass with fed match large rifle primers. The RE-19 was about 3/4 for a 5 shot group. Even taking the best 3 shots and calling that a group these loads disappointed. I have loaded up more with these at or near max loads to see if that is the issue. No signs of pressure what so ever. I think the next step is to try magnum primers as I can see that some guys are having good luck with them. This gun is way too big and heavy to shoot like this. I thought that maybe I was having a bad day but I shot two 3 shot groups with my .22 Hornet that you could cover with a dime. Then I shot my 500 Smith and Wesson which I just put a new site on and I shot a 1 1/2 inch group at 50 yards with open sites. If you flinch that 500 will show it. I am more then a little frustrated at this point.

I will be trying the magnum primers next as what I am doing is not working. Everybody says the round is not picky but mine sure seems to be.

Just as info. Some rifles like the 100 gr. BT s about .010 off the lands. Mine shoots best there.

Interesting, I went through my notes and all of mine like .030” jump with BT’s.
The Accubond likes .020” and the Partition, either 115gr or 120gr, like .050”. Although I could never get less than 3/4MoA with the 120gr Partition, the 115gr is consistent at 3/8MoA with the occasional 1/4MoA.
The 25-06 is so underrated, it kills critters way bigger than it should without fuss and is SUPER accurate and FLAT shooting out to 500 or so. Love it!

There’s a new trend with cases this size now that everyone needs to try.
Start using slower powders ie, H1000, RE25, RETUMBO, N560 & any others that fit the bill like Magnum etc.
The boost in velocity as well as ACCURACY is quite amazing. Mine loves RE25 with 110gr Accubonds @ 3226fps.

Cheers.

53.5 4831 sc , Lapua 30-06 brass necked down and neck turned to clean up. cci br2 primer.
Berger 115vld , in .015. that load is totally awsome in my 700lr. true 1/2" gun. it mostly shoots smaller . I have to screw up to shoot anything bigger then 1/2. this is shooting over flags, and an 8.5-25 leoupold.

I have been shooting 25-0 6s for 30 years and here is what I have learned.
They like to shoot well with loads right at max.
A few loads that have shot well in many, mine and friends, rifles are these.
52 grs IMR 4350, Rem case, CCI BR primer, 100 gr Sierra Game King or Nos. BT.

52 grs. H-4831, Rem case, CCI BR primer, 115 Nos. BT or Partition, 117 Sierra PH or GK, 117 Hornady Inter lock or SST.

The load that shoots best in my current custom barreled Rem 700, 26" Shilen #6 of which I have had for 25 years and has killed more deer than most people have even seen in their life time. I did crop damage control for 15 years in east NC.
49 grs IMR or AA 4350, Rem case, CCI 250, 117 Sierra Pro Hunter does 3000 fps and shoots bug holes. I have tried a bunch of different bullets and they all will kill well but for the price and accuracy and results on game it is hard to beat the old plane Jane 117 Sierra flat base Pro Hunter.

Yes, the 25-06 killing ability is way beyond what many people think.
It has been my practice to sight in my rifle 3 inches high at 100 yards. That gives me a point blank range of right at 350 yards where the bullet will not rise or fall below 5 inches. I place the cross hairs in the center of a deer's front shoulder and squeeze the trigger and 99.9% of the time they drop in their tracks.

I see no one has mentioned the Speer 120SPBT so I will. Its got a BC of .485 according to Speer. Is plenty accurate for deer sized game. Its been a great bullet for deer from 100 -200 lbs. I run them at just under 3000 fps with RL 25 and no pressure problems in a 24" barrel. I once shot cold bore over a 3 week period and ended up with a .678" 3 shot group at 100 yds from my Browning A Bolt II. I called it good enough and continue to shoot deer. The 25-06 is a lot more lethal than people give it credit for. Try those Speer bullets , they rarely do not pass through with a lot of internal damage. I get more DRT results than with my 280.

The 100 grain Ballistic Tip is a great bullet. The best load for it in my Sendero was a near max load of H4831. RL22 produced more velocity and excellent accuracy, but warm days produced flattened primers, resumably due to temp sensitivity of RL22.
