I don’t know what made me think of this. The M1 Abrams family uses a bottlenecked, rimmed shell. Just wondering if it uses a reamer that looks like the type used for our sporting rifles, but 7-8 inches in diameter.

That was really interesting. They did not specifically mention the chamber, but it makes sense that the carbide insert could form a chamber. I was an M1A1 tanker and never knew about how the barrels were made.Watervliet is who makes the barrels

I believe that modern tanks use sabot rounds that are fin stabilized... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M829 ...barrel rifling not required.
