Our favorite steak house.

It’s Mother’s Day,
I will be firing up the grill, steaks for the wife, daughter, and the new momma in the family...... granddaughter. With most of the grands here, it will be noisy........ but I bet the steaks will be just right!

Just got the invite last night! Big barbecue at the cousin’s ranch tonight for Mother’s day. Steaks, ribs and briquet! I’ll be skipping lunch so I have an empty tank! I’m gonna make up for that fish dinner!:);):)

Hoz: I may whine and complain sometimes but I really love her dearly. One of the reasons I married her was because she was “tough and determined”. When I was younger, I could handle it better! I’m gettin old! Here’s us, right after we got married, 32 years ago. I couldn’t resist that smile.

A good, properly grilled steak, cooked at home is delicious. But in my opinion, they don't even come close to the steaks served at really high-end steakhouses, like Capital Grill, Ruth Chris or the dozens of non-chain places that ever big city has.

When I lived in the Nashville area (Franklin) there were a couple of great steak house around. Remember Turkey Fries at The Stock Yard.

Living in Manhattan, I can now go to 25 or more great Steak Houses. Some around since the early 1800s. Surprising that I can find some with prices as low as the ones I used to frequent in TN.

I miss our yearly Treks out West for Pdogs . As far as Steakhouses go : It's been a long time , but the Cattlemens Club in Pierre , S.D. ( wonder if it's still there ? ) , and a place I can't remember the name .....right near the Cabelas in Owatonna , Mn . were My-T-Fine ! The Restaurant in Owatonna also had the best Soup I have ever had .... it had Pine Nuts in it and I think it was called Lumberjack Soup ( or something like that ) .

For years, when my family travels would take me to Arizona (usually as temporary research assignments by my father's employer), starting as a 9 year old in 1952, my favorite steakhouse in the whole country was Rod's Steak House in Williams, AZ. Long after Rod died, I was able to get there with my wife about 1983, and it was still great.

Anyone out that way know if Rod's is still open and still great?

It's still around as far as I know. It's been a few years but I remember it being a great meal.

The Chart House.....Callahan cut. I think it’s 24 oz. You get a free “Death by Chocolate” dessert if you can finish it.;) Back in the day I could do it. Not now!:(
Josh : talk about Desserts : Four of us went to a Restaurant in Newport Beach Calif . ( right near the Ocean in a very plush neighborhood ) many years ago . When we finished our regular food , we looked at the Dessert Menu . I told the Waitress I would like " The Works " . The other three said they would like the same . The Waitress said : " I think you all should order ....just one ...and share " . All four of us could not finish "The Works " , but one little Japanese Gal out- ate the other two guys and went spoon-for-spoon with me ! Talk about Cake and Ice Cream and Whipped Cream !!!
