Advice on Camper

After 3 decades of camping in tents, I think I'm finally at the point where I would like a cabover/slide in camper for my short bed F250. It's just the wife and I and our lab and our trips are less than 2 weeks so we don't need anything too extravagant. I

looking at the Palomino SS 1251, and it seems to check all of the boxes, but I would like to hear from anyone with experience with that model and/or others. Pros, cons, etc. Maybe I'm just not searching the right terms but reviews seem pretty limited online.

Thanks in advance.

As someone who loves camping in all its forms (tent, RV, truck, etc.) I can say you're on the right track with a truck bed camper. Years ago with my first RV, I went big all the way and got a 36 foot 5th wheel. It's great, but there times when something smaller would be really nice, especially in tight forested/mountain campgrounds and going way out in the sticks on two track type roads. Lots of people like the Arctic Fox truck campers, but I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide on.

I'd suggest getting the electric lifts if you can. My parents decided to save a little money when they got their camper and its turned into a hassle everytime they try and put it on or take it off. Other than that, it has been great.

They bought a Lance camper, but like any other major purchase I highly suggest you check out the after support reputation of your local dealer.

Thank you all for the feedback. I have looked at Arctic Fox and Bigfoot and they are definitely nice. I think I want the pop-up style though just for clearance or do you think it really won't make much of a difference?

My main thing is I don't want to lose mobility. I live in AZ and many of our short trips are up to the northern/eastern areas of the state. It takes more and more effort to get away from people every year. The sheeple seem to go out of their way to camp as close to you as possible anymore, so I want to still be able get off the beaten path.

Short bed F250 has it's limits, check your payload located on a door jamb sticker, some of the campers suggested are too long and heavy for your truck, slide in pop up or a light truck camper is a better fit IMO.
I ordered 2020 F450 for my triple slide Eagle Cap 1165 truck camper

IMO, this is the ideal RV for benchrest shooting for 1 person. I can go where other big ones can't, example tonight I am headed to the Mid Carolina Gun Range in Orangeburg, SC. Instead of parking with the other big ass motorhomes on the other end of the property I can park right in front of the storage building where they hang shot targets which I'm only 20 feet from the benches. This is 22 feet long which is a tiny bit longer than an extended cab full size pickup. I have everything I need in there and it gets 17-20MPG and it will do over 100MPH with ease if you feel like getting chased by the cops. All the match directors let me stay at their ranges and I don't need any hookups if none are available. HPIM1228.JPG

I'd consider a tow behind, if you want to do much where ever you go you'll be tearing down when you want/need to go somewhere

We started out with a 19 foot bumper pull without a slide. After walking over each other for a couple years (guns were in the back room and when wife was cooking it made for a traffic jam) we upgraded to a bigger camper with a slide. 88F877EE-ACA2-4415-8F1C-FFBB821E7B68.jpegThis is what I have been going camping in for the last 18 years, take it to the SWN every spring. Has every thing I need except for a wet bath. Use the showers at Ben Avery or baby wipes when dry camping such as above in City of Rocks, ID. (Lookout rock in the background if you have been there climbing) Fits in my garage and as Jim I get 18-20mpg cruising 80mph on the highway.
