6Bra versus 6mm Dasher

I would realistically like to know what makes the 6bra more versatile than the 6mmbr Dasher.

I’ve shot both. It’s not a fair comparison since they were two different rifles but I sure seemed to have to work harder to get the Dasher in tune. Eventually I got it shooting 3” 1K groups. I have three 6BR Improved barrels for my current rifle. All three have shot 2” groups with less effort. Again, different rifles so...

As far as versatility though, they both launch the same projectiles at similar velocities. Brass is simple to form with the 6BR Improved so I think that’s a plus although now there is Norma and Alpha brass for the Dasher.

Way easier to fire form the brass. Likes H4895, which for me is easier to figure out than Varget. This last reason seems like voodoo to me, but I will stick my neck out anyway, the BR-AI gives me less “awe shits” that I can’t figure out where I went wrong.

I've had just the opposite experience. My Dashers have always outshot my BRA. A lot less finicky. But maybe I don't have any of that magic lot of H4895.

You just said the magic number it has won more matches than the Dasher I would like to see those statistics.

Is 30.5 gr. H4895 with 105 Hybrids .010 off the lands a good place to start the “tune”?

New to the BRA and after a short work up this is where I’m at in a 26” barrel. Haven’t had it out to distance yet, but this gets me in the .2s at 100.

Seems seating depth with Hybrids doesn’t do much, so what’s left to “tune”? Charge weight?

Powder type, powder charge, bullet choice and seating depth, neck tension and primer choice are the common answers. Case preparation and sorting, annealing or not annealing, bullet sorting, die selection along with shoulder bump amount as well as checking runout of loaded ammo and verifying cartridge base to ogive are a few more. Just depends on how far you want to dive in and how much cash you are willing to part with!

I have not run the 105 Hybrid so I can’t give specific advice.

P.S. where did the 6Bra derive from an where was the most influential place it came from.

It depends on what your chamber's free bore is. With H4895 I would start at 29.7 gr. With a 26" barrel that will likely get you velocities in the mid 2800fps but there is some magic to be found at the slower speeds.

Also, don't discount pushing them into the lands as well as jumping them.

Worked an OCW and settled on 30.4 @ 2920fps. Played with the seating depth from touching to -020 and not much difference. (But I only worked .005 at a time)

Picked CCI 450s as they seem to be the most common.

Maybe I should try a lower node. Thank you.

2920fps is a very good place to be with the hybrids

Try different primers. If you try 450, 205m, Rem 7.5, WSR - one of them will do better than the others.

One great difficulty with this is the drastic improvements in bullets. If I had the bullets we have today 5 years ago, I would have shot smaller then. The BR improved became popular about the same time as the great bullets became available.
