Foreword:. None of this that follows that makes any practical sense or should be considered as condemnation of a product. This is my rant session.
I work from home in the IT industry. The downside is that I'm always in the office. The upside is that I'm on conference calls for large parts of the day that allows me to reload and do things that a lot of non-professional jersey-ed to shooters don't bother to. I decided for S&G to weigh all of my brass and bullets then separate them into lots by .1 graduations for each (using an A&D FX120i). Once again, I know a lot of people do this but I'm a hobbyist. I compete when they happen to have a match on a day a get to shoot.
So I got all of the weighing done during my pre-lunch post-coffee meetings and it's time to toss powder. Using the same charge weight that I've come to find my little gun likes, I load like combinations of case weight/bullet weight (183.9 bullet weight with x case weight, 183.9 bullet weight with y case weight, etc. Repeat x 10 until I run out). Cases charged, bullets in place, ready to seat.
Seating goes as expected. Like sliding diamonds into velvet sleeves. Not that I have diamonds or velvet laying around. It's a good comparison I imagine. They feels good. I love seating bullets. I'm dropping them in a red MTM case with the black insert that I had sitting around, not thinking "hey why don't I use this, it's a sturdy little case". I'll tell you why. The last time I used it I was load testing for a 6AR and the case came open while walking to the bench therefore spreading 100 lovingly loaded and separated by row cartridges on the ground around the bench. This is the shit I remember as I'm watching my petty project loads roll under my ATV, truck and out onto the driveway in the cold, dreary rain.
There are no curse words to describe what I felt. I'm hearing Sarah McLachlan singing about homeless dogs. I weighed each total cartridge weight and made a best guess as to which group they belonged to. Was it right? Who knows. Does it really matter? I doubt it but I really wanted to feel like I didn't kill an entire day doing something silly for no reason. Do I want to invoice MTM for the scotch I'm consuming to console myself? I think I should.
In closing, always make sure your lid is securely closed. If you have doubts, use tape. I hate reloading. I'm going to switch to shooting a Creed like most reasonable adults.
