4166 load experience.

Cant get varge. Soooo I am thinking of tying and enduron 4166. Cant find load data onllne for it.
anyone share any experiences with it.

If you are shooting Bergers call the Berger Tech line. Same for Sierra. They will give you data for 4166.

I'm using it in my 6br, Lapua brass, CCI 450's and 95g smk's
These are warm loads.. 26 inch 8 tw
31.8 @ 3040

It seems on par with Varget behind a 77smk (223); it is more temp sensitive than varget, but not as bad as several other options.

I'm assuming you picked this powder because of its temp insensitivity. I'm wondering if there is any other insensitive powder in the varget range? Reloader 16? Maybe to slow? Mike

First off, what are you shooting?
IMR4166 did well for me in my 7mm-08, 7mm-08AI.
Alliant PP2000 did better.

You have to watch RL16. It's "fluffy".

RL15 is the Varget equivalent for Alliant.

Second vote for RL15. Also, H4895.

My experience w/4166 has been limited to 308, stout loads w/155 Scenar. It has delivered excellent results for me, though the drop tube is a bit of a hassle.

6BR. It seems there is no direct "insensitive" replacement for Varget. Mike

Are those 3 temp insensitive like Varget or Enduron? I'm a dummy here, so what powder is on the burn chart that is very close to Varget AND insensitive? I don't think there is a really real replacement. Mike edit-6BR!

I haven’t noticed any temperature sensitivity problem with any of these but I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer either.

Well I'm going to invent a temp insensitive direct replacement for Varget. Put it in a gallon jug and sell it for $200 a gallon. People will probably call me a criminal for charging so much. Mike

A gallon jug would be close 8 lbs, you are not out of line. However, I shoot summer matches in the 90s and winter matches near zero or even less....it is all temp sensative, dont kid yourself.

Yes. Its called Ar Comp. In practical terms it is a very suitable replacement for Varget. It is one grain faster, but trust me that is not a bad thing. It has a very flat and even response and will most likely shoot smaller and faster.

But there is a media blackout on this forum in regards to this amazing powder. For some stupid reason.

Yes, I live in the desert and believe your right. Don't kid yourself.

What's the title of the ar comp thread you had? I want to read it again

I don't know if there is one.
When did Varget become an Enduron powder?

Do your load development when it's hot. Keep proper notes, use your sighters.
Temp problem solved.

AR Comp is a lot faster than Varget, closer to H4895 speed wise. 4166 is a great powder but has a very narrow load window .2 either way and you'll miss it completely. Norma 203B is a great powder and made by Bofors the same people making the newer Alliant powders but Norma makes no claim on temp stability? I just wish it was easier to get...

A lot? It is one grain faster. Still works in the same applications, just one grain less powder. It will still hit the same velocities.

R16 is one grain faster than H4350. Still works in exactly the same cartidges and nearly exactly the same performance.
