22 Creed just keeps gettin faster

Not sure why, but my barrel keeps speeding up. At 265 rounds now and I find myself backing down the charge to stay in the node. Same powder, primer, and bullet lots. Same brass and brass prep.

How normal is this? And when should I expect it to settle down?

Thanks

From what little i know it seems their all different.. I've had them settle down after 50 or so rounds and had others take close to 300 rounds.. i know this isnt much help to ya but your probably getting close..

I hope I’m getting close, feel like I’ve already burned 1/4 the barrel life...

Most of my barrels settled in at about 120 or so.
My 22 creed took a full 200+ before it did.
Is this your 6.5 twist with the 95 SMKs?

My 6mm creed is doing the same thing. After about 120 rounds I worked up a fantastic load shooting in the .2’s low .3’s at 3130fps and shot a match and for 100-400 yards it was lighting it up and then my pressure started building a bit, my groups were opening, my drops weren’t the same!

One thing worth checking is to see if you have a donut built up inside the base of the neck at the neck/shoulder junction. It is quite common with necked down wildcats. Very much constriction at this location can definitely raise pressures.
A way to check how much, is with a series of numbered drill shanks.

It is the 6.5 with the 95’s. I’m not getting any pressure signs, just having a hard time keeping them at a consistent speed.

Another question: this “carbon ring” that can develop in the bore, would that cause increased speeds? If so, how can one identify this problem without a bore scope?

Barrel has been cleaned after every 50-100 shots, and it cleans very easy. I’ve been using the same cleaners as with any other barrel.

Iosso Paste on a patch and work the first few inches of the barrel. Make sure to concentrate on the throat. Then patch out until clean. (You will ne to recheck your "touch" measurement after this). If its a carbon ring, you should see speed come down after this.

Powder will also dry out and will then "speed up", powder needs to be stored around 40% humidity to maintain its "normal" characteristics. Best is to not leave it in a hopper but back in the original container
Got it. Thanks.

I’ll be returning powder back to its original container moving forward.
