Lost a friend

Knew him, took care of him and his wife for many a year. Became good friends, shared hunting and fishing stories. I hope this is appropriate for Main discussion Boss. Made it just days till his 105th birthday. I'll say no more about Joe as my words cannot do him justice. Semper Fi Marine! God's Speed.

Sorry for your loss - I can feel it - I've lost three shooting buddies in the last couple of years - two succumbed to long term illness but one was a sudden heart attack. Besideswatching your own body decline, this is one of the sad things about growing old, enduring the loss of good friends and of course family.

Each day is a gift - get the maximum out of it and just take each day as it comes.

Holy crap that guy was a stud!! There’s positives to everything. He had a long life and no matter what happened along the way he left his contribution!!

I must clarify, I was a maintenance guy at a large retirement community where he lived. I worked my way up to Director of Plant Ops. Over the years, Joe and I became good friends. I bought a boat from him. Quietly shot groundhogs out of his garden so the neighboring old Yankees wouldn't raise hell. Joe was self made, was hiking the the same country I Ruffed Grouse hunted in at 95 years old. I would encourage everyone to read the links I posted. He was a hero.
Edit to add - He had a Hal Hartley stocked 03 Springfield that made you yearn to shoot.
He told me another story of those days on Guadalcanal that never made any book.
It had to do with drawing a short straw, taking a Thompson to eliminate a Jap sniper.
For another time. My life is enriched from knowing this man.

Certainly an amazing man. I know he will be missed.
My grandfather served in the Navy in the Pacific during WWII. He is long gone but I looked up to him and all of the men like them. There will never be another generation like them.
Your time with him was special and I'm sure he felt the same way. So glad you had that time with him.
Sorry for your loss and to his family and other friends.

The loss of a good friend is tough. They are not replaceable and there will not be many of them in your lifetime. Despite his injuries and disabilities, he never let them hinder him. He served as an example to you and others and left a lasting impression. You are lucky to have had him in your life.
He is gone now but not forgotten. His memories will live with you forever. As Gary said above, he is standing watch at the gates of Heaven now. That is what Marines do. And he is watching over you.

This ^^^. Remember all he left you with. God bless.

I would have loved to have met Sgt. Goble. I’m sure he had many tales of valor to share if we would just sit and listen.
At the same time let me say that while his generation was the greatest, there are many untold stories from Vietnam, Afghanistan, Pakistan, long list that could be told. These guys can also be classified as heroes

A true American.

Rest easy, sleep well my brother.
Know the line has held, your job is done.
Rest easy, sleep well.
Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.
Peace, peace, and farewell.
