We are considering making some changes to the Forum categories. Please note, we have been very reluctant over the years to make changes, following the philosophy of "don't mess with something that works!"

Here are the ideas.

1. Combine the general 6mm Category with 6.5 mm. (The 6mmBR family will remain separate, as that has high traffic and this site started as 6mmBR.com).

2. Make the "Big Stuff" Category 7mm, .30-Caliber, .338 and beyond.

3. Create a New Category for Field Shooting, PRS, and Similar Disciplines.

4. Merge the ELR Category into the Field Shooting Category (yep, we know this may not be ideal, but that ELR category currently is the least-used sub-Forum.) Or perhaps place ELR in "Big Stuff".

Q1: What do you think about these possible changes?

Q2: Do you have a better idea for 1 or 2 new Forum categories, or for consolidation of existing categories?

Keep in mind that we really do NOT want to have 40 or more sub-categories like many other Forums. That just complicates navigation, particularly for mobile users.

I think the 6mm’s are specialized and popular enough to keep their own forum.

Maybe combine 25, 6.5 and 7mm. Since 6.5 and 7mm are extremely popular competition bore sizes. And 25 just needs somewhere to be.. 30 on up for big stuff and put ELR there too.

I like your idea for a Field shooting, PRS category. It’s so popular it deserves its own place.

Paul, your current formula seems to be working quite well, I once polled to see how many "sling" shooters (highpower, Palma/prone, smallbore) frequented the forum and found there are quite a few but that they had very low post counts, perhaps because position shooters are not as "gear centric" as F class shooters? Wondering if a sub forum for the position shooter might increase their participation here?

List competitions at end of Rimfire & Smallbore. A totally diff world from the other comps. Keep original Comps in place, just w/o rf.

Do a new category of 8mm & up + ELR. Those go hand in hand with the ranges being shot.

Add 25 to the "Big(ger)" Stuff" but do not expand upward. Leave at 30 Cal

Yes, PRS, Field Shooting etc needs its own section.

I know this is one more than you suggested ....
Thanks for taking suggestions. :)

How many sub-forums can we have?

I could see the current 6.5 and bigger category broken in to two categories: big stuff to 30 and “Bigger stuff” covering the big bores.

Combine the 6mm to 6mmBR with a sub forum “other 6mms” for everything else.

Add a humor sub forum under the main message board...for all the jokesters

Combine Competition BR, PRS, F class and ELR using sub forums.

#3 Above: Have the PRS / ELR / Field Shooting as a separate unit and have HighPower / F-Class (both Open and TR) as a separate unit too.

Leave the 2 6mm categories as they are. Don't clutter up with 6.5 stuff.

Change big stuff to bigger stuff 25 cal through .338.

Merge the ELR category into ELF, field, PRS--all the gong games into one likely also handling the over-.338s.

Not a bad idea to add a f class sub category.

Merging "big stuff" and ELR go hand in hand.
7mm and beyond, load, matches, gear, etc
I think it is a growing segment that is getting traction, but I agree, small. I would like to get and share ideas on Big stuff with like minded. Other than that, love it as is.

Leave the 6's alone
.25 through .30 cal would be great as big stuff.
As mentioned above .33 cal and up in bigger stuff.
I like the idea @Uthink Uknow had about a subforum for strictly components, as this is where I do most of my shopping.
And definitely a humorous forum as suggested by @riflewoman. This will keep me outta trouble.
Another idea would be a subforum strictly for
Load work OCW & ladder testing.
Possibly one for services, scope work, gunsmithing and even painting.

and dont forget the whiners, you know, the ones that dont think the classified rules are fair. while you are in the mood for change, put something in there that if you are going to sell at all; buy more than say 1-3 things, you have to be at least silver. the folks who come here for information only dont have to pay, spreading knowledge only raised the tide where every ship floats higher:eek:. but if you wanna sell or buy much, join in and be part of the solution, not the problem. my .02

Maybe two major discipline categories. Benchrest & F Class

I'm a regular contributor to another site's joke forum. These are ok UNTIL they degenerate in to subjects that touch on politics, religion, off-color subjects or other divisive topics. As long as these topics are banned, my two cents, OK.
