The Magnificent 220 Swift

I just bought some Norma brass. Is anybody having to neck turn the Norma?

The Norma brass I had averaged .0155”. It didn’t vary enough that I wanted to do even a clean-up turn.

Winchester brass varied a lot ( 0.002-0.003”)but with a clean-up turn I got 0.0165”.

The standard Swift neck is 0.261”

Has anyone tried any of the newer powders that are noted to be more resistant to temperature change in the Swift? I usually don’t get too worried about this, just wondering how the newer powders do with respect to velocity and accuracy?
Gary

I feel as if the Swift is really going to take a hit, the 22 Creed is getting very popular shooting light and heavy bullets.

Yup. If I was building a long range hot rod 22, it would be a 22 Creedmoor. Long 8” twist barrel. The 30* shoulder is Magic. And Lapua brass.

Shilen doesn’t chamber it but Pac-Nor does, hmmm, and I’ve got a Savage target action that wouldn’t mind a different barrel.

I just got 100 Norma cases I'm going to load up with 37.5gr. of IMR 4350 with a 60gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip,,please don't tell me I'm wrong, but go ahead if I am.

I thought the same thing about the 22XC. I've seen a couple of those perform and they are impressive.

But alas.... the Swift still has its following and probably will have for some time. JMHO. WD

Nothing wrong with that load, I suggest you try H4350 only because it meters so much smoother than IMR.
Don't have H-4350 on hand right now and it's going to be a couple of weeks before I order powder..Thanks.

Got any ww760 or H414? Close to the same burn rate as 4350 and meters like a dream. I believe it burns cooler too.(?) Just a thought. WD
got that and about 10 others that will work,,got a fair selection,,

I don't know how many hundreds of pounds of 760 I've burned in Swifts. A lot.

Back in the day we used Caseguard 800's. Which was a heavy duty 2 gallon jug of Schwanns Ice Cream, filled and leveled off with Swift cartridges. Prairie dog city.

The 22 Creedmoor is just a glorified 22-243. The Swift has been around since the 50's and is an inherently accurate case.
Yeah the 22 Creedmoor isn't accurate at all

Yeah, the 22 Creedmoor isn't accurate at all...

Love the Swift.. We were both born the same year (well almost). Shot varmits and pest for a long time with a 77, then rechambered a Ruger #3 with a tight twist to 220 .

Hunted with it until I took up handgun hunting. Really liked the bullet action from a 220 hit. Sierra 50 gr Blitz hold together at 4000+++.
