All 3 will more than likely get it there.Does anyone have a suggestion that would satisfy this combo?
22-250ai?
22x47?
22-243?
Any experience with any short barrel “big” 22s, heavy bullets and what powder?
You will lose about 100+ fps going to an 18". Still outperforming the standard 22-250.Any powder suggestions?
I run R17 in my 22-250ai now with a 26” barrel at 3450.
I wonder if it’d work as well in the shorter barrel?
I've done an 18 inch 22-250 AI 8 twist. It was spooky accurate just shy of 3000fps with 75 grain amaxes. That particular barrel made pressure before I could get to the next node up. I only tried H4350, H4831, and H1000. I don't recommend drawing any conclusions from a single example. Just passing along my experience.

Thank you, how fast did you get up to?
I’m hoping I can do 3200 with the short barrel
If memory serves, it was around 3100 fps.
FWIW, I didn't and still don't consider it a failure. It was extremely accurate. I burned that tube up over the course of a year and had a hell of a good time doing it. If I had it to do over I'd probably go with 20 inches. Even with my can it would still come in at 27 inches, which would work fine for me.
There are a bunch of other powders out there that I could have tried. Please keep that in mind. Also could have been a slow tube. It happens.
That would be quite a show at sunset.220 Redline and reduced loads.....

Can you say flame thrower!! Way to much powder for a short barrel! 22-250AI would be my personal choice. + or - 100 fps really won't make that much difference. Sounds like a fun project!
