CMP Talladega F-Class

Anybody shot a F-Class at the CMP Talladega facility lately? I'm registered for the match this weekend. Was wondering what to expect.

Please write a mini-report, let us know how it goes. I have been to, I think, 2-1/2 matches there, and it will be good to see if their upward trajectory continues.

From their website looks like they have straighten out the target issues. Stupid question. Looking at the facility photos and satellite images, how do you get you gear from the parking lot to the firing line? I don't see how that's done.

They have golf carts available to move gear or you can load in you own cart and its about 100 yd walk on a paved path. down hill to range, back up to car. not to steep.

@MattPeetz Look at tbe second link in my post.

"This is a NRA approved match so NRA ruels WILL apply. Scores will also be submitted."

So that is not true?

I was there for the February 17th F-class match, despite some issues with a power outage, overall the match was pretty smooth. I've been there a few times now and it seems to be moving in a good direction now. The February match was not NRA approved, but there was talk that they were in the process of getting them approved. Getting NRA approved matches would be another positive step and that is what it looks like now.

For confirmation or clarification give the match director, Jason Black, a call or email. My experience with Jason is that he is very responsive - (256) 474-4408 ext 460/jblack@thecmp.org. Good luck with your match. I hope you let us know how it goes.

At this point I'm not really concerned about NRA approved for this weekend's match. This weekend is just a dry run to get familiar with some equipment upgrades I've made as well as test a new load at distance and check out the CMP Talladaga facility.

Of course for future matches NRA approved would be important.

With all the issues they had in the past with the target systems and no target faces I was curious as what to expect now.

Sounds like they are making good progress now. I'll be sure to report how it goes.

Thanks for all the replies.

I am happy to report that this match ran smoothly. however it may have been a little slow considering that we had electronic targets.

Yes the match was well run. It was a NRA Approved match. They said they are working hard to have more NRA approved matches. The electronic targets worked well and they had F-Class target faces.

The only minor glitch to note was the electronic targets only had two calibres programmed - .223 and .30. Does that really matter? I don't know.

All in all I will shoot F-Class matches there again. Very very nice facility.

Side note. I had to work really hard not to pull out my wallet and carry home a Garand they had in the shop.

Great facility. I can't help but wonder why it has taken so long to work out the kinks in their F-Class matches. I heard poor reports from friends about matches earlier this year-funny business with the awards, errant claims of NRA approval, lack of target faces, and seemingly ongoing changes about who is in charge.

There has been back and forth claims of NRA approval, and I remain skeptical for three reasons:
1. Past history.
2. "These matches will be run in accordance with the NRA F-Class Rules but are currently not NRA sanctioned." See: http://thecmp.org/competitions/matches/f-class-2/
3. NRA approval requires distribution of am approved match program. The site still links to an unapproved match program from 11 March 2017. Where is the approved match program?

Please report back when you are sure scores have been reported to NRA. You can check that here:
