Well actually 39 or about 40,000 members on accurate shooter. Kudos to the Boss man and Admins who have built this site into wat it is. I was wondering of the 39K how many people actually post in the forums very often. Its got to be a small percentage. Imagine if just 10% (3900) posted once a day. That would take me an hour to read:D-- im sure more people post in a day than i think. The more the better IMO

Could someone please explain this to me? Contribute $1? Are you just after the non-contributors, or the membership at large?

I'll not lie. I did not contribute until I had exceeded my buying/selling quota. So now I'm a Silver contributor. So I can post ads.

If the forum is experiencing financial difficulties, I guess I can understand that.

Maybe I don't understand the dynamic of the forum.

Before I say something stupid or irrelevant, (too late?) perhaps someone can fill me in?

This forum is expensive to maintain and all of the content is supported completely by donations.....Since this is a huge source of great info, nobody wants to see it ever go away, so occasionally members try to drive for more donations.... which is completely understandable. I think the OP's intent was that if everyone donated just $1.00, that would be nearly 40k going to help maintain things. Very nice idea, don't ya think?

I enjoy the site as well, and wish to see it continue to grow and prosper. I have no desire to upset anyone, it is just that I seem to see more comments about donations here than I do at other sites I frequent.

Other sites do 'annual fund drives' as well, and perhaps that does not occur here? I see vendor ads here. Are they not paying for advertising?

Again, not trying to stir things up, just understand.

I'm sure vendors pay to advertise. The fund drives here aren't really pushed by the admin. The comments that you see members post /make are simply that.... they are just individual members being passionate about supporting this site. I would assume it stems from their appreciation of the work the boss and moderators put into this site.... at least that's what drives me to contribute.

OK. I guess it's a contest.

Shooter's competition forum.

Should have known.

I'm out of my pay scale here.

Thanks for explaining it.

It's not a contest and I hope you don't take it personal..... you contribute, which is a lot more than a lot of members do..... A lot of members won't even give a dime.

Since I was the guy who suggestd a contribution, let me explain what I thought.

The OP was pointing out that we have 39,000 members. I know that it costs a lot to keep this forum open. No one has to contribute and I didn't till several years ago, when I read a post about it, by a member. i have tried to give something every year, now $100 a year.

BUT...it occurred to me, if every (or even 10%) members gave ONE DOLLAR, once, it would likely be darned helpful. THAT was the total point of my comment, and I certainly didn't mean to create a feeling of guilt, obligation, competition or sour feelings. It was just a mathamatic point...39,000 members contribute once at cost of 1/5 a Starbucks coffee, and that is serious cash!

So please, do not feel like I was telling anyone to contribute. It was just a passing thought.

I guess I'm dabbling in a 'rich man's game' here, and woefully ill-equipped.

Most of you guys own a rifle that cost more than the car I drive 200 miles/day 5 days a week to work.

The suggestion of Diamond and Platinum memberships is a bit . . .nauseating.

Perhaps I'll just return to my hole beneath the rock.

Sorry. Consider the 'Discord' to be silenced.

I honestly think you totally misunderstood what we were talking about. My friend, I just sold 11 of my guns to pay my bills accrued from taking care of my mom with dementia. I still owe. I am praying for a turn-around. I gave when I had it. My rifles are all under 1500, including scope. No one here was flaming you or trying to make you feel bad. Some folks are better heeled than others but this forum welcomes all to the conversation. If you are feeling that levels of contribution talk is nauseating, maybe it would be good to consider that the admin set that up to recognize guys who contribute to the welfare of this board that so many enjoy, period.

But if you insist on going home, do so knowing no one here is making you go.

The shooting sports community has to take care of itself.

I don't see Car manufacturers or other deep pockets wanting to support this site, or shooting sports in general.

What we put in is what we get back. And I'm not referring to monetary alone.

It should be our duty to help young or old new shooter or just anyone curious about sports shooting or plinking or hunting or collecting or anything to do with the firearms world.

I'm not saying to become a advocate or anything of the sort.. But just to look out of each other and our common interests.

youre acting rediculous is what youre doing old guy. Some good men have explained to you you dont have to feel obligated to donate more than you do here but you choose not to pay attention. No one has to be rich or even have much money to get alot out of this site. If you feel you have to somehow "Keep Up" with somebody else that's something youre doing to yourself so dont whine to us about it. Why would you care at all if there are higher levels of membership here?

I have been a member for awhile. I get on the site almost everyday. I have also never put anything up for sale.
But I have bought items and guns. I don't want this site to ever go away either. Even after I am done shooting.
So I donated for the first time. The comments on this post woke me up. Happy Easter to all.

Very good explanation. Mabie the boss man will start a "Dollar Club " where people can easily donate a buck to the cause.

I'm done here.

Happy belated Easter.

When I started this post I never imagined it would go where it has and i wasnt thinking of the donation stuff. The way with alot of posts I guess.
I remember the days when most of the shooting information I could get was from a magazine that came every other month, so compared to that having this site available to me is terriffic. I sure hope the site is always here and if there are problems I hope boss man lets us know.

Hoz,

Well if this ain't a case of simple honest intentions gone haywire I don't know if I ever saw one! I did not mean to derail your post. And certainly didn't mean to upset oldguy. But at this point I am thinking some folks just are having a bad day. I am not going to chase after it.

Thank you, however, for pointing out that there are a lot of members, and this is a great forum. I hope all contribute...whether it be posts, answers, questions, good intentions or money. I plan to continue, and hopefully Old will feel better about things tomorrow.
