6XC Guys

Looking to possibly switch calibers while troubleshooting an issue with another 6. First round build was a toss up between the 6x47 and the 6XC. A new chamber is in my future either way, so I think I should rehash this. Seems like these are inherently accurate and there's a simplicity option since factory brass is available.

For those using the Norma XC brass, how many firing are you getting and with what load?

Any disadvantage in going with the 6XCII reamer? Works well with other brass (would have to form of course) besides the Norma factory?

Dies that are working well with the XCII reamer?

Any input on Whidden hydraulic dies in The 6XC?

Should I be considering the 6 Creedmore as well since factory brass is available? PRS rifle, so I need to keep the speed under limits.

Would like to shoot 105 to 110's over 3000 in this, barrel is a Brux 7.5 twist.

Really appreciated gents.

I'll start....I think you'll love it. Norma brass is awesome. I got as many firings on my 6XC brass as I did with Lapua 6X47 brass. It's good stuff! I don't know anything about the XCII reamer.

As far as Whidden dies go...they are great quality. However, several local shooters are having issues with the Whidden Seater die; and selling them off to get Redding.

The die is deforming/smashing the tip of 110's I think 105's too. I just started seeing this issue with my 6X47 Whidden die set. I plan to call Whidden tomorrow to see if they have a different seating stem.

I had a 6XC and it was very accurate. It would shoot about anything put through it (Surgeon 6XC). Since then I’ve had 2 6x47 Lapuas that are very accurate as well. Whichever you choose, you will be happy provided you get a good barrel.

I currently have 2 they shoot great and were not difficult to load. My experience with Norma brass was not great. Making my own with Lapua 308 SRP. I chose this route so my bad. I have now ordered a reamer for the 6SLR. Worth researching

I've just started shooting a 6xc gun that I put together. It's chambered with a new Manson reamer with a throat for 105s and it works great with norma brass and 22/250 Lapua brass that has been run through a Forster full length sizing die ( I had to modify a case holder to push the cases far enough into the die ). 22/250 Fireforming loads with 68 grn Berger's shoot 3/4 MOA. Light recoil with 85grn hunting loads ( that shoot 1/2 MOA ) allow me to see bullet strikes at 300 yrds with a 6-24 Sightron. Time will tell but I'm pleased so far and I can't wait to stretch its legs with some 105s

6xc norma brass, annealing every time. Still waiting for primer pockets to open up. My best experience with 6mm brass but I haven't personally campaigned 6x47. Mild H4350 load to achieve 2900 fps.

May try A dab of Accu Gel in the seater...just enough to form around your 110 for a perfect fit. It will be a dedicated seater stem, buts whats $$$$ in this Game?

6XC is fabulous!

Ive shot my smallest groups of my life with mine. I shoot it in mid range F open right now.

Norma brass, 105 bergers, h4350...

Its like a big brother to a 6BR... stupid accurate, and easy to load for... no reason to not do the 6XC and mever look back...

Guys using Norma brass...anyone own the reamer? I've heard Norma brass can cause some issues with the older reamers.

Good info, keep it coming.

I've had 5 of them done by 2 different gunsmiths since 2007. One of the gunsmiths used his resizing die reamer by mistake. I sent the barrel back to him and he touched it up with the correct reamer. When I got it back it worked just fine.

The gunsmiths that I use will ask for a piece of new brass that I'm going to use and the neck turned to what we're going to use (unless it's a no turn neck). Also I send along an unprimed new case with the neck turned and a bullet seated at the depth I'm looking for. When he cuts the chamber I assume that he checks it for fit and a free bore that you can live with. Works for me. WD

Edited: I use a redding body die and Redding bushing die for sizing the necks. And I usually use a Newland or a Wilson chamber type for seating. Forgot to answer that question from your first post. Lastly, between the xc and the 6 CM I don't think there's enough difference to debate about between the two. But for ease of load development and familiarity sake I'm sticking with the 6xc.WD

Understood. Asking about specific reamers because I will just buy my own and send it to the smith to cut my future chambers, keep this simple from now on.

Anyone have a reamer that works well with Norma brass and 110's?

The 6XC is awesome. I have built a few of them now using a PTG reamer purchased from Bullets.com. These are hunting rifles and shoot the 105 Hybrids really, really well. 41-42 grains of H-4350 in Norma cases will push them up around the 3000 fps mark in 26" barrels. The 105 hybrids really do a number on Arizona Coues Deer as well.

I’ve also had good results with 105 Hybrid on deer. In the past few years I’ve used them on deer out of 6x47 Lapua, 6 Creed, and 6XC.

I formed some brass from 308 palma brass and have put 800 rounds on 21 pieces of brass. 31" bbl gets 3270 on the top end node with R#17, 105-107g bullets. Another node is around 3150.

Cluck, I can’t speak from personal experience because 1-7.5” twist barrels are the fastest twist I’ve used in 6mm. I have a Broughton 1-7.3” twist I am gonna chamber soon. I believe that should be sufficient to stabilize the 110’s.
