6 Dasher Brass Supplier

There is a Cartridge company local to where I live in Pittsburgh PA. I spoke with the owner of the company today regarding the possibility of them adding 6 Dasher to the line of Reloading brass they currently make. Due to the expense of developing the equipment to run it he wanted to see what the demand would be for it. Since there are only two options (well one), I explained there would be great interest in it. So, I am asking all of you with Dashers to respond if you would like to see Dasher brass other than Lapua and Norma. The More responses the more likely he is to consider making it.

The name of the Company is Peterson Cartridge Co.

He is all ears open and I will be sharing this link with him.

Thanks

Terry

I don't see how you could make better Dasher brass than what's available today and actually have enough demand. Many options are available, you can make your own, buy some from DJ's, buy Norma...or build a BRA... which is easier than a Dasher with equivalent performance. Those shooting Dasher or BRA's are some anal sons of guns and the brass would have to be as good as Lapua for them to buy it. I don't see that happening, but maybe. I agree that 300 WSM would be awesome.

I've heard Peterson brass is very good brass. I know its fairly expensive.
I would like to see some good 300wsm and dasher.

If they can produce a better product then what is currently available it will sell. Will it sell enough to make the venture profitable? Hard to say.

The issue is the dasher is a competition cartridge. If his brass is not better than lapua as far as consistency and pressure handling you wont be able to give it away. No one is willing to take a step back just to not have to fireform. I think the Norma cases would be more popular if they would have just went with the standard neck length. You either have to dedicate your chamber to Norma brass of you have to trim off a bunch of brass which brings us right back to having work into brass and then why not just use Lapua cases?

This is why I gave up Norma Dasher brass . To trim .050 off is ridiculous , it defeats the purpose of the brass in the first place.

Many Dasher shooters were onboard to Norma until details started trickling down when the first batch hit the street. The effort that went into getting it done was nothing short of stellar. But Norma is not as good as Lapua. That is the bottom line. I would have loved to migrate to Norma if it kept me from having to fireform...but...there were undeniable downsides to the Norma Dasher and, those negatives outweighed the positive in the end for me.
The brass has to be as good as Lapua BR firformed. It has to work in the chambers that the majority of Dasher shooters are setup for, and those chambers are based on Lapua BR.
Sorry, but I don't want to buy a new reamer. I don't want to replace my barrel. I don't want to buy a new shell holder or set of dies. I want the brass to last as long and take the same amount of pressure Lapua can. I want The equivalent of Lapua Dasher brass. Anything less and I will not be onboard...and I am not alone. I will continue to go through the hassle of fireforming because the brass works and it works well. Until I see brass that does as well without fireforming I will not change my setup.

I would be interested if they can match exactly Formed 6 Dasher case dimensions using LAPUA brass. Skipping that step would be great.

just me, but I would find something else to shoot if the NORMA brass were all that was available. I do not understand, to this day, why NORMA would bother to produce a 6 Dasher case that shooters could not just trim to length, load and shoot.

I was one guy who requested a longer neck. IF the Norma brass would've held up to pressure it would've been a good thing. IF the Norma brass did not "need to be fired twice with lighter loads" in order to theoretically harden the case head, it may have worked out. IF the Norma brass would have been made to the same base dimensions as Lapua, it might have worked out. Too many ifs didn't happen. On paper it sounded like a perfect case specifically built for competition. I have to admit that I have not fired a single piece of it. I trimmed one down and neck turned it planning to see how many firings it would take to loosen up but didn't get to it before reports hit of losing pockets quickly. I still have 499 of the first batch if someone wants to trade me some Lapua BR brass.

Since I shoot my Dasher in groundhog shoots only and don't push it that hard, I wasn't that worried about brass life. I was going to try some Norma but for some reason the fact I had to trim off .050 really aggravated me. I just went back to my no-turn 6br and life is good. Like everyone says, if Peterson can make brass as good or better than Lapua AND the same dimensions including the right neck length, it might sell. That is, until the next great thing comes along - like the BRA.

Someone please inform me as to what the heck a BRA might be?

I've not encountered that as of right now.

(The cartridge, not the more ubiquitous ladies' undergarment....)
