Source for a .010 over rem-age nut?

How much truing is needed.

Is it automatic that the threads are not concentric to the bolt way?

Are you a gunsmith with this as a potential jobs. Sorry, I didn't mean to take food out of your mouth.
No but I went to gun smith school .
While in school I learned most Remington actions the thread weren't true .

I had got the lathe and the tooling .
Decided it wasn't something I Wanted to do

GS school is where I want to go. Not sure if I can. Time will tell.

If the OP expects a +0.010 tenon he will need to find a +0.010 Remage barrel. The same supplier or GS should be able to provide the barrel nut.

A nut should be a easy build . But it also is time consuming . More the likely a good hr .
Gun smith is a person that has a mind set of labor of love .
I know all the problem of dealing with people and And insurance and paper work . It not something For everyone . Larry

I am assuming he can turn the barrel but doesn't want to enlarge and catch the internal threads on a hardened barrel nut .
Again I am making a guess .

Not to get off the subject, But does anyone have the specs needed to build a
Remage bbl nut ? I really don't like , the Idea of using them BUT you need to give the people what they want. When I true an action I single point the threads until they clean up. most clean up at .010 . HOWEVER I just did a 700 single shot action that needed to go to .028 till it cleaned up. Went to .030 over
just to have even #. I don' t like to go that far but had to to finish job.
anyways I Plan to have a bunch run off std, +.010, +.020 and one or two @ +030 over. if anyone has a print of a Remage nut please pass it on.
Also , SOME of the new 700 actions are really good. But even though they are concentric. most still have taper in them.

Not being rude but why do people like doing the hole barrel nut deal instead of just a shouldered barrel?
I do it because I don't like putting a action wrench on the action. The barrel has more material to handle the pressure.
I have done most all my barrels with a nut.
Because it's easier for me and I like it better.

My 24th addition machinery handbook
1 1/16-16 UN 2b minor diameter
Min .995 max 1.009
3b minor min .9950 max 1.0033

I haven't done any rem 700 nuts and I don't have a barrel around so I can't tell you if it is standard
But it seems most start with
unified national standards. Use at own risk

I'm not that fast at threading yet. I still believe who ever makes the barrel 0.010 over can do the same with the barrel nut. If course once setup for the action, the barrel nut should be an easy next step.

This would be a third career. Until I can't work any more.

I already do that.

I Definitely would recommend that you go for it .
I thought that was what I was going to do.
Then realized l would rather reload and shoot.
While shooting I realized getting and keeping a good tune was a never ending problem.
8 years ago started playing with tuners.

I would recommend to check with b
Gordy Gritter he has a gun smith school .

Larry, gunsmithing schools are 1-2 yrs long ( and some have added a 3rd yr) where many different facets of the trade are taught in depth. 1-2 week 'schools' are more of a seminar, where only a couple subjects are touched upon. BIG difference! Unless you think it's all so easy a caveman could do it,,,,,,,,,, in which case you don't have clue .....

"Then he discovered his "ZIZZ WHEEL" and been playing with it ever since!"

You can't learn the different thread tolerance std and cut them in three weeks . Let alone finding center on cylinders or other and drilling to certain specs .
There's alot more to a gunsmith than changing a barrel on a savage .

Design and draw up your own, or buy one you like and reverse engineer it. It's a rather simple part. The ones I've seen for sale are cheap enough to purchase one and measure it. Then add .01-.02-.03, whatever.

i made one today. need to send it to cnc shop. see what they can do. couldn't charge anyone. for the time it took me to make the nut.

After 40 years or more building race cars and motors . I think it would be easy .
Back then I was a mechanic - not a technician. We rebuilt every thing .
Don't you think? Guns would be easy .

So Larry, how about a "how to" on laying out a stock blank and then turning it into a rifle stock,,,,,,,,,,, without the aid of machinery..... Dent removal from shotgun barrel? Metal prep and operation of bluing tanks? Guild quality, not some hack job. Installation of an OS hand in a S&W "L" frame, timed properly of course. While we're at, what would need to be done to fit a OS cylinder stop to a "K" frame Smith if it need fitting and a std cylinder stop wasn't right , either. What is the minimum amount of barrel wall to be left when drilling for sights (bottom of the hole to groove)? Firing pin protrusion on a quality made shotgun? There's a da&# sight more to "gunsmithing" than being able to chamber a barrel and glass bed it into a fiberglass stock someone else made! And about all you can do is touch on the high points of that in a weeks (or 2 weeks) time........
