reloading bench track

A few years ago a forum member posted a picture of a metal "track" that he had inlaid into his bench top. It was about 1" wide and had bolts in the track that slid back and forth in the track . He mounted different tools to it so he could re-position them on the bench. Does anyone know where I could buy some track like that.

You could use 3/4" uni strut and then use uni strut nuts and they slide where ever you want it. You can get it at places like Construction Tool, Grainger, etc.

Saw another bench top that was two layers of 1/2 plywood. At the location where an item would be mounted, the top plywood sheet had say a 4"x6" opening and the plywood sheet under it had a 5"x7" opening. The item that was to be placed in that opening had both of those size pieces(4x6and5x7) screwed together and that piece slid into the opening like a keyway and two bolts went thru it and thru two anchors that were in the bench. Was a very nice set up. He had about 4-6 of those openings on his bench that he could interchange fixtures on the bench top. Loading presses, case trimmer, scales, etc. Each fixture had the two piece sandwiched wood mounted to it permanently so it could be slide into any of the openings for versatility. Wish I had pics of it still. Sorry to hijack your question but it was a nice bench set up. Found a picture of the assembly as it works on a bench.

Actually if you look closely it's 3 layers of 1/2 " plywood which would make for a very sturdy bench-top. dedogs

I really like that track idea. Now my mind is going full speed like i really need another project to spend money on.

Best part about that track system is you can slide the equipment your not using to each end and use what you need. With the insert design, you have to store the not needed items until your ready to use them. That track system is very practical.

Wish I had seen this thread about 4 months ago. Just built a new reloading room and used two Harbor Freight benches (glued during assembly) with RCBS accessory pads. They are working nice and can be relocated anywhere on the bench along the predrilled holes in the benchtop.

Here's the bench with both sets of track installed and showing the z-bar I also use.

T-track is a pain. you really have to anchor it or it becomes unstable. Plus it fills with debris, you'd be better off with drilled T-nuts, and counter sunk holes that can be plugged with phillips heads screws when not in use if space is an issue.

T-track needs to run to the parallel edge of the bench, there can no variance as to what depth you want anything set at either.

I really like that track idea. Now my mind is going full speed like i really need another project to spend money on.

Measure for spacing needs. You need it on the sturdiest part of the bench, but if using a single stage press, then allow enough space for the handle to go full stroke.
