I'm old an trying to remember details and timelines that far back is difficult.20 years ago - 1996 and you bought an F-class soon thereafter?? Didn't the f-class come out in 2007, 4 years after the accutrigger?
5 minutes? Im very impressed now! Would take me longer than that to get a scope off, then get the barreled action out of the stock and into a vice...But what do I know? I'm just a dumb guy who's unenlightened on the phenomena of Savage rifles
Have you ever heard of "chasing the lands"? Just because a barrel quits shooting quite as accurate as it used to, doesn't mean it's done being accurate. Things change as the barrel wears down, and every so often, your load and seating depth will have to change with it.
Even when the lands gets to a point where its badly worn, or unevenly worn, there's no reason to waste a good barrel if it has proven to be very accurate. Just cut it back and touch up the chamber.....in your garage it should only take 5 minutes.
Just remember, If there was only one rifle manufacturer this site and many others would be pretty damn boring.
does anyone make a 2 stage trigger for the savage?
I absolutely wasn't offended at all. As far as your words regarding savage, they were minor. I understand also that when I respond to posts that there are some very sensitive peope out there who's feelings get hurt so it wasn't my intention either to hurt yours. I think savage and Remington both make very accurate firearms with neither being better than the other ( some 2moa guns slip thru the cracks). With that being said, both companies factory stocks suck. HS puts there stock on both remington and savage guns and they are acceptable. Both companies barrels are about equal. As said remington has a better action to work with and both companies offer mediocure triggers with alot to be desired. Simply put I too believe there is more to work with in a REM action. Simple design. After all, most actions have been cloned from a REM 700 and not the savage 110. I was just pointing out that I hope your not the kind of guy that buys lottery tickets because your wasting your money. Just never heard of anyone with that much bad luck with one gun company. Hell, I'd never look at another savage much less consider having one. Again, no offense meant in my post. Posts are many more times opinions but in your case facts on your experience with savage rifles. This is the reason I do not post comments much on these type of threads. There are always some that seem to get butt hurt when you may say things about their favorite rifle or manufacturer that they think as negative. Let me clarify this by saying I had no intention to ruffle anybody's feathers with the comments I made. So if I did, I apologize. That being said I think if you were to go back and reread what I typed you would see that other than criticizing Savage's CS I was very fair about my admittedly "SMALL" sample. At the end you will also notice that I gave my opinion on Remington products as well and that they differed very little from what I said about Savage products. It would be nice to be able to actually give your opinion and then have a responsible discussion without all of the pointed comments.
And finally, yes I like Remington products and they are far from being perfect. But I also like Browning ( I have one that is the most accurate production bolt rifle "I" have ever shot ), CZ and some Ruger ( the worst bolt action "I" have ever shot). I hope that's ok. I even have customs built on Mauser 98's / VZ24's. And as far as custom actions I own are Pierce and Defiance Machine.
"Yes, it's called an "Accutrigger".
Preamble: The opinions expressed here are in no way meant to demean or be offensive to any member holding a different opinion. In the interest of full disclosure I do enjoy shooting my no nut Pacnor/Masterclass/PTA/ Evolution trigger 6.5x47L but I would not go down that road again.
I know better, but I have had so many belly laughs out of this and the custom action thread that I have to comment. Anyone who has shot a good (IE real) two stage service rifle trigger or an Anschutz 2 stage trigger may well disagree. And yes I have a PTA Accu-Trigger in a box that was replaced by a SSS Evolution trigger and several great 2 stage triggers in M1-a's and a Jewel 2 stage in the AR as well as an Anschutz 2 stage in a bat wing safety prone rifle. A close examination of the crazy sear arrangement on the Savage action may give a clue as to why the after marked for savage triggers has limited players, the reason sure isn't that Savage triggers of any origin are great. Good or better than factory but not great.
Now I will dig out some of my old iron pouring heat gear and withstand the flames that are sure to come. Will most likely be a lot more laughs there also.
Don't you do that LarrySince were on the subject, one thing I wish savage would change that remington does on the 783, is a wider trigger. Thats my biggest complaint, other than the pornstar sloppy design. Yes it works, but could use a little tightening up![]()
Don't you do that Larry
I don't care how it is . But with a few modifications it will adjust to 4 oz . My bolts are every bit as smooth as a custom action wit the change I have done. And my lock time is faster . LarryDo you mean you like the narrow trigger?

I have 3 but two have the accura trigger . . LarryWish you lived in Az, Id love to see it sometime!

You said I have sloppy bad fitting and excessive movement that cock harder .Now I've heard it allI can't possibly understand how you could ever get the timing and bolt camming/cocking smoothness of a top of the line custom action when you have a sloppy Savage floating bolt head and an excessively bad fitting bolt body. And theres a fine line that must not be crossed with lock time if you want an action to be smooth. Too stiff of a spring, or too steep of a cocking ramp and you're causing excessive vibrations and movements on the action and you make the firing pin cock harder. Too little, and shooter error can have a bigger effect or primer strikes may be too light. the magic is somewhere in the middle. Custom actions don't have super fast lock times with extra heavy springs because they know what they are doing when they make them. Custom actions aren't built to just be extremely accurate, they are built to give a shooter a base platform with the capability of breaking world records.
I suppose if a person wants to put that much time and effort into an action it can get 'close' to functioning like a custom. I'm sure it's leaps and bounds ahead of what it was out of the box, bad thing is it could never be resold for much gain. It's still a a used Savage benchrest action in the eyes of the world. Tho some folks dont mind putting in a lot of time for their own personal benefit I suppose. I do a lot of work to my customized factory varmint and hunting rifles that doesn't increase their value so much as it just suits me. But it makes them comfortable and adds a bit of a uniqueness so it makes me happyYou said I have sloppy bad fitting and excessive movement that cock harder .
I can tell you I don't my fireing pin I have reduced the mass weight 30 percent the spring he a double shelled cage bearing on it The lift cam has the ramp changed along with a sleeve that turns not slides like others do when closing the bolt head moves .006 All moving parts are coated with a high friction less coating . The trigger seat is adjusted with a Allen set The trigger don't de cock because the action has Been fixed . Because the bolt cocks on lift it is timed to where it closes easy Larry
The real value to me is taking a savage to a competition shoot and and winning against the custom actions . It like taking a ugly milk cow to a horse race . Anyone can do it with a custom . Just old school way . LarryI suppose if a person wants to put that much time and effort into an action it can get 'close' to functioning like a custom.
