Cabelas sucks find me a factory target rifle

No straight up factory rifle in the hands of a newbie (no offense) is going to compete with full customs in the hands of seasoned competition shooters.

The suggestion of using your Cabelas points to purchase a high end optic is the most sound advice in my opinion. Then save up cash for a custom rifle that might actually have a chance of being competitive

5 years ago Cabelas told me that if I wanted to order a Remington 40 x they would do it for me no problem. The past 5 years I have been saving Cabelas points with the end goal of ordering a target rifle that I could use for a multitude of purposes.

For the past 3 months I've been fighting with them because when I went to order it they told me Tough luck sucker. We won't order it for you because we only buy guns in bulk from our distributor. we would have to mark it up huge since its a ine off so much it's not going to be affordable. So I asked how much with your Mark up which essentially seem to call a bluff because then they said no we just can't do it.
So I asked them what they could do for me and they said feel free to look around and buy other things. I don't want other things I want a bench rest rifle and this is the only way I'm going to have the money to buy one. Does anyone know of a Factory rifle of any brand that Cabelas might be able to get and that would shoot as good as a 40x. I was looking at the 40xb repeater in 308 as that's the caliber I want.

PS don't ever get a Cabelas credit card they will screw you. Go get one that gives you cash back instead and spend it where you want it. Wish I had. I could have ordered my rifle. At this point I likely will never get one.

Look in the Cabela's Gun Library - it has a search engine - you can search all of the Cabela's Gun Libraries and if you see something you can have it sent to your local store for a lookie-see.. If you don't like it, you have no obligation to ake it.

That rifle's been there for a loooong time.
+1 As hogpatrol says. I looked at this rifle probably a year ago. Factory bbl set back. Cabelas sales people say it was chambered by Walt Berger as "Berger " is marked on the barrel. I have seen barrels marked as this before and am quite confident work was done by Walt's brother, Nelson Berger. Without benefit of bore scoping, I would assume this rifle would likely need to be rebarreled(not a bad assumption when buying any used target rifle that one does not have personal knowledge of).

Take a look at the Savage web site. They have a model 10 in their law enforcement series, one HS precision stock, the other Mcmillian both available in 308 (both repeaters-detachable box). I would make a personal visit to a Cabelas if one is close and plead your case, maybe they would order from Savage for you. You'll have points left over for a scope.

Thanks for the input.
Not sur cabelas can gey 5r but can ask.

Respond to a couple points I have bought much year with Cabelas points and never had a problem including laser rangefinders Swarovski binoculars several GPS Etc this time it was just an idiot to promise more than he could provide

The Savage does interest me I guess I just always had my heart set on a 40 x because the early eighties one I bought for $1,200 in 223 10 years ago is phenomenal

Cabelas will ship anything to my FFL or I travel once a month to in laws which is right next to Cabelas. They do have a 7.62 40x but it's got scratches down to the metal and they want $3,500 with a mark 4 Leupold even though it's a 1984 gun.

That 22-250 doesn't look too bad I'll have to look a little more I just worry that 22-250 can be a burner and may not have much life left in it.

I made this mistake about 4 years ago. When I got a factory Remington 308. In my opinion the new Remington's and target rifles should not be in the same sentence! I have sense built a dasher on that Remington action. I would go buy a used 700 and build you a custom on that action. You will be glad you did! The actions may be still good but the Remington barrels aren't much especially when you say target rifle!!

I would look long and hard before a Savage. Good Rifle bad Trigger some parts now from China .
FN/ Winchester Police/ Sniper Very Good.
Remington Police .308 Not Bad.
The 40X is a up-Grade of a 700.
There a few places that make a fine Tactical style .308 on a Rem. Action that are great Rifles.

Red Hawk rifles is a good place to look ?

Don't waste your money on a 40X. Have your FFL with a Remington account order you a Stainless Steel Short Action Single Shot. Remington Part Number 85325. Have it cleaned up, add a precision ground recoil lug, and put it in a Target Stock. You will have a better rifle than the 40X you wanted.

Which parts come from China? Does it matter and can't you replace the trigger with a better one?

Found these two at Cabela's gun library. Not sure what type of action on the first. I was told they will sometimes haggle on the price, especially if it's been sitting for awhile. Also, they're running a 10% off promotion on pre-owned firearms through 6/19. (No, I don't work for Cabela's) :)
