My Savage LRPV 6BR and fliers

I would like to bring attention to this targets which was shot from clean bore with foul shot prior, so the one on the bottom was was first, then a group of 3 shots , the one higher was last one I fired.

then I let barrel to cool down and I fired @ 300 yards the first shot is the one on the bottom then another 3 shots grouped together then the last one on top.

telling you its, not shooter error, there is something in that barrel...

I agree...try shooting off a solid bench and a decent rest/bag setup. Shooting groups with a bipod isn't going to happen.

Looks like the gun wants to shoot and a new barrel isn't a cure all.

Thats my thinking as well. It sounds like you are doing all the reloading steps you need to do, but if your bipod is jumping around, or is pre-loaded on one shot and not the next, it is just not gonna be accurate.

I would re-try it in a solid front rest/rear bag and see how it does.

I'm not gona try to prove you that my hands not growing out of my butt, I keep 0.25 0.3 MOA with setup I have using 308 or 223. I can probably do better with BR setup, but I think this getting nowhere.

this is what I usually get with setup I have, all of them 5 shot groups @ 100 yards 1st 223 and other two 308

If you can't do this with bipod and rear bag, I just feel sorry for you, but I will recommend more practice. Practice makes it perfect ;-) I practice from rocking bench, its a challenge but you have to control everything, breathing, hart beat and bench movement ;-) and practice every week, trigger time is good for you!

Each gun will react differently when shooting off a bipod. Maybe try shooting it off the ground and see what happens.

Relax. Nobody here was speculating that you cannot shoot a friggin rifle. You asked for our opinion and were giving it. Nothing more. Nothing less. No need to take offense to it or you shouldve never asked the question. And I dont need you to feel sorry for me, or give me advice on shooting. I never asked for the advice. You did!

In case you forgot, the reason some of us mentioned trying something other than the bipod was because YOU mentioned that you sometimes push forward and the legs slip on the bench. I would think this is an issue you are having with your bench setup, and so do you cause you mentioned it.

said by you:
" I shoot off the bench, its wood bench and bipod when I pull forward have tendency to slip, I'm thinking to tape sandpaper to the bench to prevent slipping. "

Nobody even mentioned the bipod till you mentioned your problem with it.

I dont think there is one person here that is trying to prove that it is or isnt the shooter. We were just making suggestions based on the info you have given us. Thats all.

I have a LRPV with a HS stock. I have had 4 barrels for it Factory 6BR, and 223, two custom barrels 20 Tac and a 223A!. Shooting from a rest will help. But for me, all the barrels will give vertical fliers. For me it is the stock and gun handling. It will shoot great groups, but I will get fliers from nowhere, For me it is a varmint gun not a bench gun. I have 2 long range bench gun. I was shooting it Friday and was hitting 2.5" clays at 500 yds.

Back to this topic, by recommendation from my friend I removed middle action screw, as the result fliers stopped, but still have to work on the load development, but 2.8"@ 500 yards and 0.24"@100 using my old setup with bipod seems to be better then what I had, I was told that middle action screw misaligns action and ruin groupings and 2 action screws is all I need.

alright, got replacement barrel from Jim at NSS its 30" bull CBI barrel, so far without playing with torque screws and having my old setup (bipod and rear bag) I'm very satisfied with the barrel I got from Jim, finally this thing can shoot!

so it wasn't me or my setup, the original barrel was causing all them fliers...

O yeah, remember 300 yard target I posted before

now I have no problem getting them under 0.25 MOA

Thank you, Preacher! How you been?
Few weeks ago I got a chance to try it at 500 yards, now I start do doubt my bipod and rear bag setup, my 5 shot group was about 2.1" if I could dismiss one of the shots, that would make not bad of the group don't you think?

FWIW you might try something under the bipod. I have two rifles, a Cooper and a Tikka Master Sporter I shoot off the bench with a bipod and both of them shoot noticeably better with a piece of short-nap carpet between the bipod and the bench.

Reed, for 300 yard bench I have one of those none skid safety step stickers placed on top of it, but the bench for 500 yards is different, its been seating outside in the rain and snow for quiet some time as the result its half rotten with 7 degrees incline on its X and 5 on Y and it shifts a bit when pressed forward.

I was told that middle action screw misaligns action and ruin groupings and 2 action screws is all I need.

WOW, I have 5 PTA's, I have never remove the middle action screw! Is this something common on the PTA's?

What is the correct torque sequence on the PTA?

I can't really say I have had this problem with any of my rifles, but this has been an interesting thread!

with my new barrel I didn't try to shoot without middle action screw, right now I have front and middle set to 45 inch/lb and rear to 30
