Since VV is hailed as one of the best powders out there I was wondering if VV N540 is superior to all the other powders associated with the 6mmBR and heavier bullets or is it just another powder to try out ?

The VV powders are clean burning and consistent.
I tried the 150 for a short time but didn't find a small shooting load,
maybe didn't give it enough time.
The VV 540 is a double based powder and burns hotter than the single based VV140
It will give more speed, but at a price.

IMO "just another powder to try" - And I'd be trying H-4895, Varget, RL-15, IMR-8208 to name a few before I'd resort to V/V N540 for 103 - 110 gr. 6mm bullets in the 6mm BR.

    I'm running IMR4166, but with 95g smk's
good case fill and speed. Don't know how it would work with 105's or such.

N540 is a superb powder for the 6mmBR! It will produce excellent accuracy and a concomitant increase in velocity. You will love it! However, you will also see a noticeable decrease in barrel life due to it's being a double based "nitro infused" powder. But make no mistake, if high performance is what you are after, VV N540 would be hard to beat in the 6mmBR..

H4895 has the literally one of the highest heat potential numbers on the entire market. No one seems to care..

I'm glad you brought up the double base thing. I just tested some and got alittle more velocity but no better accuracy. I think I'll stick with Varget. Mike

4166 is an awesome powder but it does have a very narrow load window. I got some outstanding results in my BR shooting 107 SMK's but it did take longer to dial it in.

HI Bill ,,,,back around 2000 I got my first 8 twist BR,,(has shot 14 twist since 70's) I shot everything known to man in it ,,,got best results with Rx-15 and 540,,,,shot about three pounds (600 rds) of the 540 and ran out of it and was hard to find so I switched to Rx-15 and got 2500 + accurate rds out of that bbl,,,,today 540 is EZ to find so I would say go ahead and use it,,,Roger

I tried it for a year in a good 6mm BR and got excellent velocity (darn near dasher levels) but accuracy was just so so with a lot of unexplained flyers. I went back to Reloader 15

It will shoot. I loved it for a while but went back to RL-15 and Norma 203-B.
I still have it and I may just give it another look.

I used Varget and Rl15. Varget shot best at closer ranges. Rl15 shot better at longer distances. Once I tried VV 540, it shot better than both powders at all distances. This was a Benchrest setup, so a few fps + or - didn’t matter to me. Brass wasn’t worked as hard with VV powder either.
Bat action, Krieger 8tw 29”, 108gr Bergers. Load was 30.1grs. Velocity was 2890’s. I won the championship in heavy class with this setup. EVERY BARREL IS DIFFERENT. IMO, try it.

When the Berger 108 first came out I got it. It was also right at the time that the Viht powders were just not coming over on the ship. Or at least N540 was not. I used the 108 for a pound or 2 of N540 worth of matches and then all the N540 dried up. A couple years later, once the supply was boosted, I used it in a 6mm Dasher for almost a year. Just incredible!

If memory serves me correctly, I believe my load was 30.3 or 30.4grs of N540 with the 108s seated 7thou INTO the lands. I believe (not positive) that I also used CCI 450 primers. That ought to get you started!
