Teslong scope pictures

F-TR obssessed shooting junkie
Here are some pics from my recently replaced barrels (and one of my new ones)

First a new barrel. This is the throat of an ABC barrel that was chambered by Warner Tool this month

This is the barrel that came off of it. This is straight from the rifle, hasn't been cleaned since the last mid range match at Raton in September. (some of the copper is greening)

Defiance Dec19-1.jpg Defiance Dec19-2.jpg This is the barrel that came off of my Defiance. I think it's still got legs. It shot well at Raton but in the team tests it shot a little taller than it has in the past (about ¾ at 1000 as opposed to sub ½). I've got another barrel chambered up for it now so I can spin it up and go once I get a new load worked up.

This is an ABC with about 2000 rounds on it. I don't know the round count on the barrel coming off of the Panda

Nice pictures. How many rounds on the old barrel? Caliber?
Those are 308s off of my F-TR rifles.

Now as bad as that Panda barrel looks it got very little use in 2019 before the FCNC this yr at Raton, and last yr (2018) it shot a 104 X count in the FCNC mid range. (actually 105, 104 on my target and on Jim Grissom's) This yr it was opening up in the last match every day. I was scrubbing it every night with JB.

Ran a few through the new barrels today. Loaded 10 for each, identical in all respects. Shot 2 to get centered and foul, shot 5 for group then got chrono info on the last 3 with the MS.

pulled the last one, doh!

did better on this one.

Both are 100 yds. The same load I shot in my last barrel that had a reasonable freebore.

2650ish with N150 and 200.20x
29F lying in the snow. (The bullets were in the truck until I laid down)

Here is the barrel on the Panda before I clean. One thing I've noticed over the yrs is that with one exception, the first time I shoot a new barrel I get copper, then I don't see it again for close to a couple of thousand rounds in a 308. Look closely at these pictures and you'll see what I think is copper on the edges of the lands just forward of the leade. I've always suspected that this is where the fresh cut steel scraped copper the first time it was fired and then it smooths off.

That's all 4 lands in the barrel.

One thing I noticed after getting my borescope is that the barrel company that everyone says is so great (they certainly think they are the best, that's for sure) looks the worst of all the ones I have. Toolmarks, bad lapping, just rough as a cob really... I will not be buying any more. My Criterions look better.

My Rock Creek, which is barely regarded these days, looks like a jewel on the inside. Just amazing.

I wonder if, as more bore scope pictures become available, if more people will discover who really does the best work.

How good does that crappy looking one shoot? Just curious.

Not bad at all, but I would not say it's anything at all special for the premium price. My Brux shoots better than anything I have ever shot so far, and my new 12 twist build is a Brux. You still can't beat a good ol Kreiger either... and my Rock Creeks have all been very impressive.

There are a lot of good barrels. I am just curious to see if anyone sees what I see.

600 rounds down this tube, cleaned frequently, .308 155's 46 gr varget, but more recently 45.4 gr 8208, has left some carbon behind that I would not have known about without the Teslong...

Thats what break in does. Gunsmiths usually take care of that. Youve probably heard butch lambert talk about finishing a chamber. Itll go away if you scrub it every few shots

Here’s my Browning BLR .358 after 15 rounds at the range this week. I was afraid to post a picture of it for fear of causing a run in the commodities market for copper futures.

Here’s after a 2 hour soak with Wipe Out foam. Knocked out almost all of that copper

That factory barrel is as rough as a corn cob, however, been hunting with it for 36 years and it still holds Min of Deer

You might try switching to a powder that has copper fouling eliminator additives, Winchester, Hodgdon or Ramshot.

FWIW, I used a narrow ribbon of masking tape and wrapped it around the body of the camera to help center it in the barrel. Then adjust the mirror further inward to maintain crisp focus. Still amazed at the video quality of this inexpensive borescope.

Try Ar Comp. You should see very similar performance at nearly the same load and the decoppering agent is quite good. It will appear as ash in the barrel, but the copper will be drastically eliminated, and the decoppering agent is easily removed.

Appreciate the comments, done some more cleaning and posted a new thread with updated pics, seems the carbon is just about immovable. Anyway, still shoots OK.
