I'm in the same boat. Just bought 200 moly coated bullets and decided now I would rather shoot bare bullets. I was going to tumble them in SS pins with dawn but I wondered if the moly would mess your barrel up?Howdy All
Just as the title says, has anyone tried taking moly coating off coated bullets?
Thinking of either dry tumble or stainless pins with dawn.
Evaporation works fine.heat speeds it up if a person is in a hurry...a little alcohol in the rinse water helps also.If water gets inside the hollowpoint or under a plastic tip it will cause an imbalance. It's difficult to get the water out.
A few years ago I did about 400 Berger 185gr VLDs and 300 Hornaday 168's using a vibratory tumbler and walnut shell media, in batches of 100. I let them run overnight. I read a suggestion somewhere about adding clothes dryer fabric softener sheets to the vibrator's drum, the theory being that the loose moly would adhere to them and keep your media cleaner - it worked. I don't recall if I changed the media during the process or not. The bullets came out dull, but the moly appeared to be mostly gone. They shot fine.Howdy All
