Stock selection help

I'm trying to decide on a appropriate stock for a R700 short action chambered in 223. I have a prairie dog barrel on order, Brux 1-9 Rem Varmint finish at 26. This setup will be used off a bench and in field hunting conditions on a bipod. Lets say 75% dogging, 15% prone on a bipod, 10% field shooting. The scope i have for it is a VX6 3-18 with a 50mm end bell. I am also thinking that i'll set this rifle up as a switch barrel and get a barrel for midrange F-T/R (med Palma contour?).

I called McMillan and they recommend the A-3, A-3/5, Game hunter, and A-3 Sporter. I'm leaning towards the A-3 Sporter but thought i check here first. Would i hold myself back if i went with a ADL? I don't see myself using the magazine too often. Any options should i get when ordering?

I'm not dead set on a McMillan. Just a good dual purpose stock under $600 with a wait less than 5months. HS, Boyds, BC, Chassis system, others? I realize everything is a compromise, thanks for your sage advice.

I expect someone will favor each and every stock available, but I sort of stumbled into the HS Precision tactical stock and really like it. It works with a bipod, offhand, prone with a sling or off of bags. It accommodates a magazine, but my action is a single shot. It's pretty stiff due to an aluminum spar ...

Depends on price range. If your budget is 600.00, look at A3,4,5 style by McMillan or Manners. If it's half that, look at the Choate tactical stock or stockys long range stocks. There are alot of great stocks from 200-600.

Stockys LRT, or their version of a Manners stock looks interesting.....$300.00 range.

I LIKE THE GREYBULL STOCKS I HAVE SEVERAL AND THEY SEREVE ME WELL AND THERE TOP NOTCH !!!!!

If you do go with the McMillan, installed pillars are a low cost upgrade.
I was thinking of that to but the McM pillars look so chinsey. One of the PA smiths (Cigarcop) on here post some of his bedding and pillars, after seeing that i didnt want McM's pillars anymore but i have to order my stock tomorrow.

Well after a lot of pondering and two calls to McMillan(i tend to over analyze this stuff). I just ordered a McMillan A1-3. I got the pillers, inlet for a future heavy palma contour and 14.25LOP for my monkey arms. I figured i'd experiment on the color and went with 55%Med Tan, 35%Light Brown and 10%Black. Now for the wait.... 4-5months. Those Greybull stocks do look pretty tempting for next time. Thanks for the suggestions,
Greg

14.25LOP for my monkey arms

Just a potential heads up. I had ordered a McMillan stock for my Sako L461. I ordered 14.0 LOP thinking they would make the stock 1/2 longer (got the 1/2 Decelerator pad). My stock came out of the mold 13" long (they couldn't make it any longer) so to get the 14" LOP they added a spacer. Now I had a nice McWoody stock, ugly spacer, 1/2 decelerator pad. I called the, they said they should have told me they would have to add a spacer. So I sent the stock back, they removed the spacer, and returned the stock to me (no cost to me, but gone for 5 weeks). With your color combo, if they need to add a spacer, not sure how it would look?

Could have just added a 1" recoil pad to get you to 14"..........................

YOU'LL LIKE I PROMISE !!!!!!!!!
I understand John Burns was primarily instrumental in the stock design. Although he isn't part of greybull anymore, they have kept what works. I have alot of respect for him and his abilities in this shooting game. Seems like wherever he spends some time, he tends to leave a tremendous amount of his knowledge. His stock design sounds like one of them.
