I need some help on how to permanently separate some .22-250 brass of the same manufacturer. Has any one used a file to put a small crease on the rim of a cartridge case as a marker? Would this cause a problem? Is there any other ideas as to how to mark a case?

    Thanks in advance,

We used to paint the headstamp with different colors of fingernail polish then wipe them on a flat papertowel wetted with acetone. Filled in the lettering and stayed well. I do not know if the wet stainless media technique would take it off, we only had vibratory tumblers.

I use a "dremal with a very thin disk.
If you make a jig to position the brass its a snap.
Its kind awkward doing it free hand
    No problems with bolt guns

Yes I have filed a notch in the rim for a few cases.

This is a relatively common practice to index cases in black powder cartridges for use in single shots. Should not have any problems.
