Could someone look at these for me? Thanks
If my primers looked like that I'd keep increasing slowly. How does it group ultimately answers your question.
Not even close to hot
The cratering is likely just a characteristic of your pin/bolt-face. Doesn't look hot to me. jd
Are those reloads or factory ammo? I notice a little cratering around the firing pin strike although the primers are not excessively flattened. If those are reloads fire a few factory loads for comparison to get a baseline for comparison. I have a rifle that craters everything simply due to an overly large firing pin hole in the bolt (Rem 700 in .308) which could be eliminated by bushing the firing pin hole but I haven't bothered yet as it doesn't hurt anything and shoots well. I would not recommend going especially hot on loads though, if it craters with mild loads it is more likely to have a primer pierce with hot loads.
Here's a example of a HOT load.
I don't read primers anymore. They are known for spreading fake news.
Bolt lift and Ejector imprint are more honest. Tho Ejector imprint can be hard to spot at times, you just have to take a good look from different directions/angles and light conditions.
Yup. That’s hot.
That sort of looks like one of Clark Magnuson's loads...
Cheese and Rice, are you using that case again?
I understand you are new to the game but with questions like this, it would really help if the rifle make and model, cartridge, bullet, powder, weight of load, primer brand/size/type, brass make and any other pertinent information is supplied in the OP. Without that, it's all guessing.
I believe he was inquiring wether or not you intended on using the case in the picture you posted again. You know because the next primer is likely not to ever touch the side of the primer pocket.... lol..
I had two of those show up in a batch that I fireformed. Curious thing was that no bullets were used, only modeling clay to contain the powder. The pocket will not even come close to holding another primer, I couldn't get the cartridge in a shellholder to try and deprime.
Them pockets were soft
Cheese and Rice...so THATS what daddy was yelling when he hit his thumb with the hammer...I thought it was sumthin else
Ff with cow. I had to snap it out of the bolt.
I figured it was some incantation cause pop was always dancing around howling something I was told never to repeat.
