QL charge weight verification please

Could someone with QL please confirm a safe charge weight for me?

Hodgdon lists a STARTING load at 55gr for this bullet but Sierra lists 53.7 as a MAX load. I have a ladder loaded starting at 57gr up to 59gr for my new barrel, but seeing as it is far more than Sierra lists, I was hoping someone could run the numbers for me and see if this is safe pressure levels. Gun is a 1917, barrel is brand new CBI, so I feel confident in the strength of the action and chamber specs for hotter loads, but it's really the first time I've seen such a wide gap between listed charges for a cartridge combo.

It's gonna depend on brass H20 capacity.

But QL shows around 57.5 gr of H-4350 generates 59,500 PSI. 3.300" coal.
This was using a bullet length of 1.250" (measured and averaged 2 different lots of 175 smk)
Default Quickload H20 capacity for the SAAMI 30'06 is 68.20 gr.

You might be OK starting at 57 gr since you're using Winchester brass.
Sierra used F.C. brass for their load data which from my experience does not handle pressure as well as Winchester.

I barely got any crunch with nearly 60gr.

I may scrap the top half of my ladder and load starting at around 55gr. I'm looking for a 1000 yard capable target load, but with the zero free bore I can't efficiently seat the 200+ bullets as this rifle doubles as a hunting rifle and I'd like to keep the lighter 168-180gr bullets close to the lands if possible.

I appreciate the info. I will report back with velocities once I get the ladder shot, I may also check water capacity of my brass to see how it compares to the standard in QL.

The Hodgdon data uses win brass, and WLR primer, which I find a bit hotter than Fed210. Also, the Hodgdon data is specific to the 175smk, where Sierra lumps it in with 180gr including the RNFB which would generate much higher pressures, so maybe that's why the big difference in charges?

If you have a chronograph it might possibly help you verify the hotness of the load.
I would assume you would start seeing pressure signs close to 2,900 fps from a 24" barrel.

I've had instances where I'd use Hodgdon's data to the tee with the same components only to get pressure signs 0.5 gr below their max and other time I was able to go 4+ gr above their max and still not have any pressure signs. Had to visit the range 3 times to try and find pressure signs, and still didn't at 4.8 gr above Hodgdon's max in the 243win with 105amax and H-4831 Win. Brass, 210m primers.

Yeah, I'm planning on doing a velocity ladder for this rifle. I' shooting a 26" barrel, but it's a sporter contour, so I won't be doing group ladder.
