Pure lead wanted.
Your best bet is a plumbing supply. Shipping lead
in quantity would be costly, negating any deal
you got on the product. LDS
The forum Castboolits would be a good place to find some as well as Ebay
Rotometals..........free shipping and you are sure you get pure lead
where are you located?
How much u need?
Some older sailboats have keels full of it.
Pure dead soft lead is sometimes hard to find. None of the sailboat keels around here were soft lead, in fact, the ones I got were pretty hard alloy of some type. The best I have ever found, besides purchased mill lead, was sheet lead like what is attached to a wall to shield radio signals or x-rays. If I remember right dead soft pure lead is like 6bh?? I think what I have is like 9.
My friend is a dry wall contractor he gave me a bunch of lead. He gets it when he hangs the sheet rock in a medical building around the Xray room. The drywall has to be cut to fit and the waste has the lead on it and we just peel it off.
Lead at a pluming supply store is pure soft lead witch has alredy ben said.
I second the vote for Rotometals... If you call they will tell you how much they can put in a flat rate box..
.....and said improperly. I don't know what "plumbing supply store" you are shopping at, but.....
"Since the Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments of 1986 the use of lead-containing solders in potable water systems has effectively been banned nationwide. The major impact of the Act has been on solder containing 50% tin and 50% lead (50-50), until then the most widely used solder for drinking water systems."
It was only 50% lead prior to 1986...now it is zero because it has been banned.
Some plumbing supplies keep lead for repairs to cast iron pipes. If remodeling or repairing damage sometimes it is easier to use the lead and okum style joint rather than go to a Fernco no hub coupling. The lead they are talking about comes in small bars. A male and female are fitted together the gap in the hub is stuffed with okum and then lead is pored over the okum to lock it in place.
If you are considering buying your lead from Rotometals, they have this current special:
Save 10.4%* on Website orders

How many pounds do you want? I have some but shipping will be high
?? Shouldn't be more than USPS Flat rate medium box per 70 pounds?
