Gentlemen,
I don't know if you have had a chance, however, Primal Rights has come out with the production version of their(his) Competition Primer Seater. I like part of the design of the product, however, I have a few issues as well. I would like to hear your thoughts on the unit found here: http://www.primalrights.com/equipment/base-cps
Design issue:
1. I don't like the fact that a $600 bench priming tool does not have a primer tube guard. Having had the opportunity to tour the Nosler factory quite a few moons ago I was interested that they loaded daily production testing ammunition on Dillon 550 loading machines. I was taken a bit aback by the black rings on the ceiling from the primer tubes exploding. Thankfully Dillon encases their primer tubes with an external steel tube that protects the reloader and avoids turning the primer tube into a frag... I discussed this very issue with Dykstra and he, rather weakly, suggested you not load more than 10 primers at a time. No matter how modest the chance of a tube going up, I think a $600 unit that has supposedly been built without regard to cost should have included a properly designed primer tube/magazine blast shield. Especially one aimed at speeding up the process of properly seating primers for precision hand loads. I have precision and safety now with Sinclair Hand Tools and The Co-Ax Press Priming Tool...
Long term product support:
1. IF the product were perfected and I heard of more of them being bought by precision hand loaders I would worry about this less, however, the reality is that this is a small company with a product that is going to appeal to tiny sliver of the market. Not to be a dick, however, I don't want to buy a $600 priming tool only to have him go out of business in a couple years. No track record so to speak. The majority of what he sells is made by someone else and I have seen those markets come and go...
Thoughts? Too early to adopt? Complete lack of primer tube blast shield compounded by the 10 primer at a time insult to your intelligence... In short I would like to know what some of the rest of you think...
Regards, Matt.
