Opinions - Lyman Cyclone Stainless Steel Rotary Case Tumbler

Considering a tumbler and wondering who has experience with the Lyman Cyclone.
1000 round capacity is waaaay more than I need. Anyone know of a smaller model?
Is the 5 lb. of media that comes with it enough?
Would you buy another one?
Any other tumbler you think is superior to the Lyman?

5#'s of media is plenty,I have owned various tumblers made by lyman and they work fine,Lyman products are decent products so yes I would buy lyman. They have treated me better than any other die company. Go to midwayusa.com and look up the cyclone and there are customer feedback comments to read.

Thanks, Jonbearman.
As an aside "I live in new york state, how unfortunate !"
I don't know which is worse. You could live out here in California like the rest of us "unfortunates". :(

OK .... All things being equal, they are both highly rated. both do the same job, and the price I got on the FART proved to be one heck of a deal so it won out in the end.
Looking forward to seeing it on the bench next week.
Thanks guys. I knew if I asked the question in this forum I'd get the dope I needed.

Before purchasing the Frankford unit..check out the prices on Amazon....they seem to literally vary from day to day...the lowest I've seen it on Amazon was 123.00 ish...but just remember....the price could hike back up the next day....kinda of a crap shoot...

Thanks to all of you guys for the help. I shopped everywhere I could think of and got it shipped to my door at $140. Seeing as how it weighs about 20# is didn't feel that was too much. EBay wasn't much help but Amazon has some flexible sellers. However, the advice is good to strike while the iron is hot. Amazon prices change with the wind.

Hi Lapua40X,
I have had the FART :p (Frankford Arsenal Rotary Tumbler) for nearly two years, I have tumbled thousands of cases (I shoot F-Class) and I am very pleases with it. The only negative thing I can say is that the timer doesn't work properly. When it gets near zero it just gets stuck and doesn't turn off. The easy fix is to turn on the timer on my phone as a reminder.

The thing that jumps out at me just from looking at the Lyman is that there is only one entry port. The FART opens at both ends and that is very useful if you decide to rinse the brass (of soap and Lemishne) while still in the tumbler container by running water from one end through the other. It also cuts down the wear and tear on the rubber sealing gaskets by half. The FART has see through plastic lids. Very useful on those nights that you cant fall at sleep  . The other thing that seems missing is the strainer grills that enable me to dump the water and pins while holding back the brass. Without it, when you dump the water the pins and brass will follow, that means you have to separate the brass and pins in some other way.

The FART price seems cheaper also, so the choice seems obvious to me. YMMV.

I have the Lyman tumbler and really like it. I have had zero problems with mine, but I have only used it about a dozen times. I have never owned another tumbler to compare it to. The Lyman seems like it is very solid and will hold up for quite awhile.
