I have been given the honor of testing a barrel that was put together by one of our members,

    http://forum.accurateshooter.com/members/zeke06.541229/

    other wise known as Chris!

Chris put together a 10/22 barrel with a reamer blend of his design.. the barrel finished out at 24.5 inches. 16 twist with about 6K of choke.. I am not sure where the barrel's ring point is, i didn't test it before putting it on the action.

It took about 2 boxes of ammo to get it relatively dialed in on a 50 degree afternoon with mild winds at Kettlefoot. i was using SK Standard Plus at the time. and when i packed everything up, i was hitting dots on a the ABRA target consistently.

Last night, went to a match.. and here are my results:

This first card was shot with SK SP

Winds were gusting to approx 12 mph with rain and the threat of snow!

The next two targets were shot with Center-X..

    20180202_045415[1].jpg

on these targets, in order to get the X, you must wipe it out.. next line up doesn't count for the X. Conditions were a lil tricky with the mirage that was jiggling around with the swirling winds and updrafts that were present.

As it stands right now, i feel that Chris has done a wonderful job with putting a fantastic barrel together! So you 10/22 owners that would be looking for a new barrel.. do not hesitate to contact him.

Does he offer any different twist rates or threading on muzzle? Fine shooting too!

Looks terrific. I wonder what would happen with a better grade round? May I ask how many rounds it took to get the tuner dialed in?

I agree on the Midas plus and your comment on the Eley. As to the Eley Black, there are relatively large differences in accuracy among the various speeds (and lots) with the same speed. I have an Anschutz 1913 round action and a tuner. I am embarrassed to tell you how many rounds (over three cases) of various speeds, found one, and then had trouble finding and then purchasing two cases of it with the same lot number. If one has a tuner, multiply the variations accordingly.

Wow! A 10/22 as I've never seen the breed before. ABRA was a new one on me too - had to Google it. (I don't think we have an equivalent discipline on this side of the Atlantic, although we do have rimfire BR.)

It really brings a whole new "challenge" to BR shooting.. and really relish in that challenge too!
