I am looking 200-220g range. Berger makes so many now in that range. What has been shooting great 10 shot groups ( lets say under 5 inches) and WINNING in competition? I am not worried about best BC or what numbers looks best on paper. I am talking tires on the ground experience, and not just one time, I need consistentcy. Thank you, Samuel Hall

This is hearsay, so feel free to ignore it, but I only know one guy personally shooting a 300WSM and he shoots the 200.20x in it. That seems to line up with what I hear a lot of guys talk about. BR-level best accuracy? Not so clear, but the FTR guys seem to really like it too.

EDIT: I don't know why I added my previous sentence on the 210 above. I've removed it.

The guy shooting the 200.20x picked them after trying a bunch of other bullets and really liked them. He didn't think the heavier bullets shot any better.

On the suggestion of the guys that have been shooting it for years at Williamsport, their Berger of choice is the 210vld Hunting. I have been working with it in my gun finishing up load development and I am glad I followed their advice. .....;)

    Regards

I set a 10 match light gun score record of 47.9 with group agg. of 4.5461" using 200 grain Hybrids in 2016 at 1000 yards. Two of these targets had 4 bullets that where under a inch with one out for 3.5" group. What a bummer for one bullets twice and this was with same 5 pieces of brass. Oh well maybe better luck next time.

I would look at the 210s, 215 hybrid, and the new 220 hybrid. NBRSA style 1k they are doing very well.

I have had excellent results with 215hybrids but more so for F-open competition rather than raw groups.

If conditions are kind and I’m doing my bit it’s capable of holding well inside the 5” X-ring.

have been meaning to try the 210VLD’s but with F-open it’s more about reading the wind and pushing the BC envelope I haven’t been down that path yet because the 215’s group tight enough for what I need.

Berger recently discontinued the best 1k benchrest Bullet , or that’s my opinion . The 210 LRBT . If you can find some I’d definitely give them a try . There is still a lot of them floating around out there . They have surely worked out for me

215's are hot and the 220's might be the new shiny, but time will tell.

At Williamsport the 210 VLD and the 215 seem to be used the most. Haven't seen anybody shooting the 200.20x, but it should be a good one also. Matt

The 200.20X has a short bearing surface and would not work with my free-bore, so I used the 200 Hybrids. When I talked with Berger they told me .170 free-bore was what the FTR guides used in .308 and thats what they where made for.

I tried the 200.20x in my WSM the .225fb. They were just barely in the neck of the case. May have been my lot , but I was non too impressed. Tried in 2 good barrels are worked a load. No good result at 500 yards. I have an old lot of 200 Hybrids I have not tried.

The freebore needs to match the bullet. Back a few years ago, when we shot the 240 Sierra in a Weatherby case, you needed a lot of freebore. It was so long, you couldn't shoot another bullet in it. Maybe the 230 Berger would of worked, but it wasn't available at the time. Matt

I am not into Benchrest, so this can be taken with a grain of salt. Two weeks ago a friend of mine, who has a "ShotMarker" target system, took it to one of our 500 yard highpower ranges here in Arizona. Presently there are no matches being held in the Phoenix area. So we set up his ShotMarker and had a "Pretend 500 Yard (3 x 20 match) F-Open Match" that we did exactly like a regular match would have been held>>>>but we did not have wind flags! I was shooting a .300WSM using the 230 Hybrid. On "Match 2", during the 20 shot for record string, I had 7-8 shots that were up at 10 o'clock inside the X ring, that were so close together that it blew what appeared to be a nickle sized hole that I could see thru my scope. Because we were shooting 20 shots + sighters, I could not tell how big the actual group was on the target. However, if I were to shoot Benchrest with that load, I believe it would be very competitive. Matt @dkhunt14 is correct, you need a L-O-N-G freebore for the 230s. Mine is .285..
