McMillan A6 PRS

I am wanting to start getting into longer range shooting.

I enjoy shooting and handloading and I've always wanted to extend my range...just never really had the opportunity until now. A new 1000+yd range is open nearby...and I'm close enough to Ridgeway, I think I'd really enjoy the Varmint silhouette shoots (850-1000yds).

I have no dreams of competing right now. I may enter smaller matches just to shoot..but I know I don't have the time to dedicate to actually competing.

I don't think actually benchrest is my cup of tea..but do like shooting little groups.

Long post...I apologise but felt I better give the info to get accurate replies.

So right now, I have a m700 SPS Varmint in 22-250. I have several hundred rounds through it. Getting tougher to clean. I despise cleaning a 22cal. I never used a bore guide in it..i i bought it as a cheap rifle I can shoot groundhogs with and build from in the future....well, after 14 years, the future is here lol...

I put it in a McMillan Game Hunter and put a Jewell trigger in.

I have a 6.5mm Bartlein 5R rem Varmint contour already. And started gathering some loading supplies. I've decided on the 6.5x47 Lapua.

My thoughts are the have the m700 trued and the barrel put on. I already own it and it's served it's purpose. If I don't rebarrel it, it won't get shot. If I sell it, it's a $300 action...

My question is...I'm thinking the McMillan A6 PRS stock may be a good fit for me as sort of a "do all" rifle. Seems like it'd work pretty well for everything. Haven't found a lot of reviews on it though. PRS guys seem to like chassis. BR guys have their BR stocks...

I don't know that any one shooting discipline would be "for me". That stock may allow me to "play along" with any. Looks like it'd track decent off a rest and bags. Should shoot well off a bipod etc so F-class could be a possibility. Will still work in the groundhog fields etc.

I feel like my Game Hunter may be limiting. Thinner more rounded forend. Cheekpiece. Extreme angle on the butt etc. Comfy rifle to shoot. But probably not ideal for what I'm looking for.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Etc. I'm all ears. Basically looking to shoot out to 1k accurately but not a highly specialized stock that limits me to shooting from bags or shooting prone. Something that'll do it all well enough..if such a thing exists.

For the purposes you mention, the A6 is a great stock. I use one on my match rifle and like it a lot. Not ideal if you’re going to do any hunting with it though, except from a stationary blind.

A6 adjustable in too pic. Adjustable Game Scout in bottom pic.

Thanx John! Appreciate the pics! The game scout is comparable to my game hunter I believe... difference being the game hunter has a cheekpiece.

Not too concerned about hunting. Doesn't really fit my hunting style in Pennsylvania...aside from groundhogs.

Just thinking a flatter/wider forend and flatter/straighter toe might be a little better. The game hunter is comfy and im shooting it well.
