Lapua 300 Norma

I have 15 pieces of the Lapua Brass that were provided as "Samples" by Kevin Thomas back when he was with them -
The First Distributors to get this brass are supposed to be Graf's & Powder-Valley. - I've had my orders in since about April of this year with both.
I Have 150 pieces of the Peterson Cartridge Company brass, Looks good but testing will be "the real test" as to how it holds up.
Waiting on chambering of 2 barrels right now & hopefully before the years end I'll be able to move forward.
Will be running 30" Hvy-Varmint Contours on both, one in 1-9" tw 5R, and another in 1-9" tw 4 groove conventional (Krieger's) on a BAT "M"

Yep I have had it on back order with Graffs since March. I have parts for a couple now including my own but Im in no hurry to chamber them up with no brass. Oh, since you have some there whats a loaded neck measure?? :D Thanks!

Alex, - I'm neck turning to 0.0140 for a 0.3400 neck Improved chamber. - The average measurements using a ball micrometer ranged from 0.0153 to 0.0160 in raw un-turned state. - The Peterson brass that I have was VERY close to these measurements as well in the neck.
- And FWIW, after full prep (uniforming primer pockets, de-bur flash-holes and then neck-turning to 0.0140 & chamfering mouths) the case weight between the Lapua samples and the Peterson was within 2 grains of each other. - I didn't check water capacity as I don't do that, I just sort by weight and call it good-to-go regarding that aspect.
- I'm No.2 in line at Graf's on the wait list so I was told. - It will come, but it's taking a long time in doing so.
- I had the Lead (U & V on JGS Dwg's) on mine set at 0.285 for 230 gr. Berger Hybrids & the new 230 SMK.

- Regards, - Ron -

I went with .235" on mine. Kind of leaning towards the 215 and 230 sierra. I didnt want to throat too long to prevent using my favorite 30 cal bullet (215). Berger is working on a 245 so I heard, but hopefully with a better BC than what I was told. They pulled it off with the 7mm 195 so hopefully they can do the same with a 30 cal

Shot show is coming up pretty soon. That will be a year since Lapua announced 300 Norma brass
Their web site says it will be avail. in 2018 so they still have some time...
Since they combined forces with Berger supply issues have increased exponentially!

Has Anyone done any real testing with the New Peterson Cartridge Company Brass ?
Times Fired & What load ?
Photos of Targets shot (groups & at what range) ?

I gave up on Lapua's promise a long time ago. Nothing wrong with 300 Norma Peterson brass. Its good stuff. Been available for a long time now. Obviously dont have Lapua 300 Norma brass to test or compare against, but Peterson has been reported to be just as strong as Lapua in every other chambering available for comparison.

50 round ammo cases the 300 Norma Peterson brass comes in is a nice touch too. Can fit cases loaded with 230gr Bergers and 230gr Sierras bullet tips up with room to spare. Seated to lands with .235" freebore.

I only bought 100 Peterson cases tho because I do still want to try the Lapua brass whenever they finally get around to making it.
Might use the Lapua brass for the hunting version 300 NMI I'm building. Just ordered a Proof CF sendero 30 cal 28" barrel with 1 in 9" twist. Won't be ready til March so hopefully Lapua will have the brass available by then.

I'm surprised you can't get the brass there's tons here in Canada. You guys get the Berger supply and we get Lapua I guess lol

Pic of my prepped Peterson brass (prior to FF) in the case it comes with. Cases with bullets are my dummy rounds with 230gr Sierra, 230gr Berger, and 215gr Berger. Nice not having to hunt down new ammo cases that will fit bullet tip up ammo. Plus being made in America, I think I might just be done buying Lapua brass for anything if Peterson offers the same cases.

Again I'll ask -

Specifics on the Gun used in the testing -

What did you turn the necks down to? Did they need cleaning up, or did you decide to turn them regardless of the way they came from the factory.

It's always nice to have more than one choice for top quality brass. Lapua needs to step up and produce or face loosing market share, as many good companies seem to be up and coming. Competition is always good for the consumer. Now somebody please make some good quality 7mm SAUM brass.:D:D

Brass is very uniform. Doesnt need cleaning up, but my chamber neck is .339" so I have to turn them

Loaded round with my unturned Peterson brass is .340". Turned .002" off so I have .336" loaded rounds with turned necks (.014" neck walls)

I have fired the Peterson 3 times. First time was with H1000 and 215. Second and third were a stout dose of N 570 pushing 215’s around 3100. Primer pockets still very tight. Brass seems to be built like a tank. Accuracy around .3-.4 moa out to 1200yds. Very pleased with the Peterson.

Thank You for the report !! - That's great to hear !!

Hopefully they do some straight 284 brass....

Hopefully they do some straight 284 brass....

Can always give them a call or send them an email. Have your friends and colleagues ask as well. They are a company who listens to demands of shooters. Most of the cases they make are due to people asking for them. Always very helpful when you speak with them.
