High pressure case pic

6mmbr to a bra.
this was tight group 12+ gn, cow, two 1" patches. I really do not think it was double charged but it sure was a big bang, lots of fire out the barrel.... So maybe it was.
I noticed I had two patches but I stuffed then in anyway. Maybe It was just too much pressure.
Gas released out the action holes I believe.
The case was stuck in the bolt face, I had to remove bolt and really peel it out, like breaking a stick. The base is flattened & expanded so much it won't fit in a shell holder.
It was a reminder that this thing can blow up. Be vigilant at all times......

The pic to me looks funny. Primer is showing a big dent and not pressure signs, like it was driven forward and then maybe slammed against bolt face. Matt
Naa, the neck shoulder junction fits perfectly, (even a slightly proud primer causes hard close) it had No where to go unless action broke open.
The bat action held this bastage together !
Primer is flowing it's so flat, looks like an egg. Only bolt damage I can tell is a marked ejector button.
Out of 203 pieces this is the only one lost so I'm good to go for the year.

I've fireformed thousands using COW and the only problem was when the powder got hung up in the thrower. One would be under charged and the next overcharged.

- I've fire-formed a few cases in my time of varying sizes & it looks like a "stiff powder charge" along with some headspace being short.
- Not saying that's what it was but the symptoms depicted in the photo along with the description of " it sure was a big bang, lots of fire out the barrel.... So maybe it was." prompts that conclusion as a possibility. - Also, before it was fired how exactly do you know that the neck shoulder junction fit perfectly ? - Was every one, including that one measured with a "bump gauge" ??

I’d like to have seen the FPS on the chrono from the round. I had a friend do something similar to this in an f class savage. I can’t remember what is chronoed. I’ll have to ask him but i remember thinking it was by far the fastest 308 load I’d ever seen. Seeing brass like that puts it in perspective. Safety safety safety. Glad you got out of it fine and with no bad equipment damage to boot.
God takes care of children and fools. I’m glad to be a fool some days

I'm thinking it's pretty hard to chrono cream of wheat and flannel patches.

I had a couple with proud primers, bolt wouldn't close.
Old brA cases had to be bumped down a couple of thou to fit new shoulder cut.

Now I use clear drop tubes and watch each charge fall. Then tap the handle, just in case. I use a thrower for the COW or in my case instant grits here in the south. Stuff a piece of paper towels in the top and I'm done.
