H4350

Thanks for the heads up! Now, decision time. $30 bucks a pound? I know if I buy it, I'll see 8 pounders in two weeks for $167.00.:mad::mad:

You snooze you can loose . Larry

Yeah, I know.:) But! I have an 8 pounder of IMR 4350 and 20 odd pounds of Varget, which guys here have said they had good results in the 6.5-47 Lapua. Buy the way, have you found those dies yet or should I just call Whidden? Thanks, Josh.

What starting load did you use for IMR4350 in your 6.5x47L? How about Varget? I bought 8 pounds of IMR4350 at a really good price - $169.99, but then was able to get 2 8 pounders of H4350, the first one being $190 all in, but the second one just cost me $278.00 with shipping and HazMet, but I have enough to wear out a barrel now I guess.

I just did a workup of 140gn Berger Hybrids in my 6.5x47L using IMR4350 and settled at around 38.6gn. I'm getting decent groups at 100yds (under 3/8") and SD/ES is in the upper single digits. Muzzle velocity from a 26" barrel is 2665fps.

I've read that IMR4350 is temp sensitive so I'll just have to keep an eye on velocities going into the winter months. What I love about the 6.5x47 cartridge is that it seems pretty tolerant of a wide range of charge weights. I started workups at 38gn up to 39.8gn and all of the groups were 1/2" or less at 100yds.

I gave up on H4350. I had bought what I thought was a lot, but a little less than a barrel later I was going to run out of that lot fairly quick, and instead of getting price gouged while changing lots in the middle of shooting a new barrel and load work up I moved on to another powder that was readily available and had proved to print equally small groups. I bought in excess of 40 lbs and now I'm a happy camper.

H4350 is great powder, but until things settle down on it I'm going to move on.

(With all that said thank you for the share Frank Hull! I'm sure you helped out at least a few shooters.)
